The key number for me from the weekend is that 80+ percent of Independents think Trump is a criminal and wouldn’t vote for him. So if the GOP wants to nominate him and put an anchor around every down ballot candidate, have at it, but look forward to all Dem Washington in 2025.

Republican state legislators are doing everything they can to minimize the non-Republican vote in 2024.

An all Dem DC is a dangerous fantasy. There's a reason most House seats are uncompetitive, and only a delirious fool would take Montana and West Virginia Senate seats up in 2024 for granted.

There are more and more of us independents all the time. While they are leaving both parties, I know mostly friends leaving the Republican Party -- and yes, Trump is one of the reasons they’re leaving.

Isn't it time to run an ad with a photo of trump and a caption that says "Are you tired of this shit?" Use it as a billboard or maybe a five second video played on local TV and/or YouTube.

Yeah, real consultants (not us keyboard warriors) would probably clean this up or leave it to RVAT or the Lincoln Project but I like the message. It's short, to the point and easy to remember. If we could show pictures on Substack I'd just start a thread that asks for alternative captions.

Damn Edward, I would LOVE to have your confidence. I am still of the mind that the idiot MAGA tribe is powerful enough to take this country down. I so hope you are right and I am wrong. I would gladly pick up the bar tab if it turns out that way!

If he wins the nomination, the election is 100% a referendum on Trump. The only catch is Biden’s health but imagine Trump head to head with Harris. The amount of racist sludge he and his posse would spew would likely be horrifying to many voters.

Only a psycho can even imagine the racist, xenophobic, misogynistic sewage Trump will spew.

If he wins the nomination, I will do nonstop novenas for Joe Biden’s health.

I would include a bigger majority of the population that are just tired of this nonsense. Trump is a felon, but he’s also exhausting.

Trump has ruined the GOP for 2024 whether he's the nominee or not. If he is, America will be revolted with the GOP, and if he's not, he goes third party and they're even more screwed, as the GOP voters will be revolted with the GOP.

Two reasons he might not go third party. 1. If he does that, authoritarianism would not win this time around. He LOVES authoritarians, maybe beyond gold toilets. 2) Being a spoiler is not 'winning'.

The gold toilet is the throne of this authoritarian king, because a real throne wouldn't have him.

Well, if he goes third party, he can continue to grift. And, he's vindictive as hell, so if he loses the nomination, he will want to take it out on party apparatus while telling everyone the process was rigged and. that he really won. And while losing is not winning, there are only two options in Trump world, Trump won legitimately, or Trump's opposition stole it, and Trump was the real winner.

I wouldn’t worry about Trump losing the nomination. He’s like a cockroach; he’ll be the only one to survive a nuclear blast landing within five feet of his radius....:)

The GA governor can pardon him for his Fulton County crimes.

He won’t. He wouldn’t help steal the election for him either and neither would his Secretary of State. That’s what the trial is about.

Kemp is not a Trump loyalist, though. He didn't sign on to overturning the election. Trump backed a primary opponent against him. Kemp criticized Trump's Kim Jong Un praise, and Kemp's PAC just put out a poll showing Trump underperforming in Georgia, relative to Generic Republican.

I think the big reason he doesn't third party might be that it shuts down his pardon chances.

Yeah that’s a good point since it takes it from the view of what’s in Trump’s self interest. The state prosecutions may complicate things, but even if he became President I’m not sure what the implications of the state prosecutions might be.

Well, Trump's ego has been known to overtake his greed and self-interest on occasion.

Because *that* would be crossing a line. Racism, grifting, sexual abuse, endangering national security, attempting a coup, and inciting an insurrection leading to the death of 5 people... you're just overreacting because you don't like that Trump is crass. But run against the party? How dare you, Sir!
