Within 48 hours of Kirk's killing I received two fundraiser texts from "Erika Kirk" asking for money to "continue Charlie's legacy."

How are you on their texting list?

Good question, I have no clue…:)

That's a damn good question. I'm a registered Democrat and have worked for the party in elections. I donate to democracy-leaning interests but never to a MAGA-adjacent entity. I think they must shotgun voter rolls or something. I just got a text from "Trump" this morning. Back during the campaigning season in 24, I got a lot of texts starting with, "We know you are an important Republican opinion maker." I also think a lot of these requests are scammers just tagging onto some hot news. I used to do the STOP but I've learned that I get fewer if I just ghost them. You don't get any?

Back in my sweet summer childhood (even though I'm decidedly not a child) of the Obama years I contacted my two Republican senators - Josh Hawley and Roy Blunt at the time - objecting to their refusal to consider Merrick Garland's Supreme Court nomination. Shortly after that I began to receive emails and texts seeking financial support and requests to sign birthday cards for or register to win dinner with Dear Leader, respond to "polls" and proclaim the evils of the radical left for the next decade, allegedly from Trump, Don Jr., Ted Cruz, Dan Crenshaw, Kevin McCarthy et. al.

They've finally cleaned up their lists as the spam has pretty much dried up, but I still get an occasional message from Mike Johnson now. If you've ever done your citizenly duty to share your views with your elected representatives, that may be why you're on their list.

Needless to say, my sweet summer childhood has morphed into cranky old bag and I no longer waste my time with that.

I bet that's it, Linda. I subscribe to Greg Steube's Sunday update - you know what they say about keeping your enemies closer. I'm sure that has me on the list.

Josh doesn't like hearing from me...his office stopped sending me their canned responses when I write.

I actually did try one more message earlier this year, urging rethinking of my Senators' support for using masked, unidentified agents in ICE raids, given how much they look like the tactics of human traffickers (something both have condemned in the past). I received a response from Schmitt confirming receipt of my comment, although the tone implied to me that while he acknowledges I live in his state, he pretty much wishes I didn't.

I don't even bother with Schmitt as he doesn't even pretend to be a rational human being. Hawley, in another universe, could be a moderate Republican and actually might do good work. However, his self-serving nature prevents that from happening here and now.

So that's how you know you're getting through. Good to know.

I don’t. I get texts from Dems wanting money, and I’m technically unaffiliated, but not from MAGA. Maybe they figure a CA number is a waste of time.

It just occurred to me that before I retired I worked with some MAGA guys. We used to give each other shit about our politics. I have half-suspected that one of them donated to Trump in my name just to fuck with me. Dirty tricks at its finest.

Revenge is best served "liberal". Some reciprocity might be required.

I must confess I have considered it.

I get MAGA emails all the time. No idea how that happened.

I received the same. They’re milking this for every tear, and dollar they can get…:)
