Back in my sweet summer childhood (even though I'm decidedly not a child) of the Obama years I contacted my two Republican senators - Josh Hawley and Roy Blunt at the time - objecting to their refusal to consider Merrick Garland's Supreme Court nomination. Shortly after that I began to receive emails and texts seeking financial support and requests to sign birthday cards for or register to win dinner with Dear Leader, respond to "polls" and proclaim the evils of the radical left for the next decade, allegedly from Trump, Don Jr., Ted Cruz, Dan Crenshaw, Kevin McCarthy et. al.

They've finally cleaned up their lists as the spam has pretty much dried up, but I still get an occasional message from Mike Johnson now. If you've ever done your citizenly duty to share your views with your elected representatives, that may be why you're on their list.

Needless to say, my sweet summer childhood has morphed into cranky old bag and I no longer waste my time with that.

I bet that's it, Linda. I subscribe to Greg Steube's Sunday update - you know what they say about keeping your enemies closer. I'm sure that has me on the list.

Josh doesn't like hearing from me...his office stopped sending me their canned responses when I write.

I actually did try one more message earlier this year, urging rethinking of my Senators' support for using masked, unidentified agents in ICE raids, given how much they look like the tactics of human traffickers (something both have condemned in the past). I received a response from Schmitt confirming receipt of my comment, although the tone implied to me that while he acknowledges I live in his state, he pretty much wishes I didn't.

I don't even bother with Schmitt as he doesn't even pretend to be a rational human being. Hawley, in another universe, could be a moderate Republican and actually might do good work. However, his self-serving nature prevents that from happening here and now.

So that's how you know you're getting through. Good to know.
