But they keep up the game of "Sure we have problems on our side, but the other side is pure, unadulterated evil that must be opposed at all costs."
That sort of framing inevitably gives us the current circumstance.
"Sure, Trump tried to overthrow the United States government and got people killed, but abortion." That sort of calculation? You really have to be up your own ass to use the word "but" in situations like the one McConnell finds himself in.
