The disgust and revulsion I have towards the GOP cannot be understated. My late father is spinning in his grave, he a former GOP committee member. From their actions (or inaction's) towards Ukraine and their fledgling democracy, voting rights, gun violence, climate change and especially women's reproductive rights as evidenced recently by the TX woman's plight. And yet they move forward with sham impeachment hearings and are still focused on Hunter Biden while they foist TFG on Americans as a rational choice for president, whose intent is to bend justice to his will. Mainstream media everyday focuses on Joe Biden's approval ratings as dismal and people are unhappy because gas prices are high. WTF! If you have a roof over your head, food on the table and able to pay your bills on time you aren't suffering.
I feel this so much - the disgust cannot be overstated. As I have watched my (well educated, professional) extended family be consumed by the crazy over the past couple of decades and completely hijacked by 2017, I often wondered what my father's parents would make of it all. Both were Republicans of the greatest generation. I know that if they returned from the hereafter today, they would be appalled and depart again as fast as they could. However, I have to wonder that if they had lived into the era of trumpism, would the constant indoctrination of faux news and the conspiracy theories of most of their children have gotten to them? While I still miss my grandparents almost daily and regard them with a level of respect that I am not sure I have felt for anyone else, I am deeply disheartened to believe that they may have become pod people too. The propaganda machine is insanely powerful.
I've got similar respect for my grandparents who passed in the early 90's. I actually don't know if they were Republicans or Democrats, but the thing that gives me comfort about them in thinking about how'd they'd look at today is that they didn't have hate in their hearts. I never heard a negative thought from either of them towards anyone. Not even of the casual variety you might expect from people of their generation. By birth and circumstance, odds alone would suggest they'd have some casual racism bleed through from time to time. By fighting in the Pacific you'd think my grandfather might have occasionally had some cross words about the Japanese. And yet, nothing. I chalk it up to being inherently kind people as well as fully accepting the kinder and gentler parts of Christianity.
So if your grandparents were anything like mine, perhaps you can get to the conclusion that I have, that they'd have nothing to do with something as hate and grievance filled as Trumpism.

It amazes me how many people can claim to belong to a faith named after the guy while choosing to disregard his basic message.
They should now be officially named the GOP (Government of Putin) and end their sham/charade.
