Some may see the rendition and incarceration of individuals w/o due process as a distraction. But seriously, the entire Trump administration is a morass of distractions, all collectively undermining western society, the rule of law and the global economy. I don’t think we can afford to ignore any of these interwoven abominations!
It's Trumps brilliant plan to get people to see the Democrats fall all over themselves to get foreign gangs released back in the US. One of the reasons Trump voters voted for him was to get illegal immigrant criminals out of the country. He's thrilled Democrats are demanding they be brought back.
I totally agree, unfortunately 60% of the population don't think foreign criminals should be free to committ crimes in the US. Yes, they should be arrested and tried in the US, but that's hard. Easier to send them to a foreign prison and look like you're tough on foreigners and most Republicans and some Democrats will agree with him.
Why do you think there is so much press about Democrats fighting to get them sent back to the US, get arrest warrants and trials for these people? Because it makes Democratic law makers look like they care more for criminal gangs than poor Americans who get hurt by them.
I actually agree with you, but I see that it makes the Democrats look stupid.
Nobody believes foreign criminals should be free to commit crimes in the US. Nobody. But you know what a lot of people do believe? They believe in due process. That you should get your day in court before the government can take your liberty away or imprison you, whether here or anywhere else. That's actually a 80-20 issue and much more popular than the 60-40 issue you claim is being used so effectively against Democrats.
And the reason that is this matters so much that it is an 80-20 issue that every good American understands isn't sympathy for KAG or any other immigrant accused of whatever they are accused of. Its because if one person in this county doesn't have due process rights, then nobody does. Not you. Not me. NOBODY. Anyone can be grabbed and sent to El Salvador. Without due process, how the heck are you or anybody else going to fight it?
As for messaging, its simple and Senator Van Hollen nailed it on Fox News when he said: "I'm not vouching for the man. I'm vouching for the man's rights. His right to due process." Period.
It’s like people think when I say “this probably isn’t a good political fight” they think I somehow and endorsing such an idea. In fact, the exact opposite. However if the last 10 years haven’t shown people that unfortunately voters only care about what effects them or they “perceive” effects them its pointless. It’s why I’m about focusing on tariffs. That will affect voters and it’s easy to grasp. Harder to spin. That being said, we all lived through Covid, a million deaths and a president that drove the economy off a cliff and yet, somehow, the fucker convinced the public that they should only consider his first 3 years of his economic record. Can you imagine bush convincing the public that the economy was great for 7 years and just ignore the last year.
Honestly this is what makes me thinks all my ideas are bad or that the Americans are so stupid that this is what we deserve.
I agree. Democrats, and I'm one, are terrible at picking issues to fight for. I totally belive in everyone's right to due process. But a few weeks ago Trump deported some who hard working immigrants. His voters said they wanted the rapists and murderers deported not good people. He heard them and deported gang members, and all the Democrats thought this was the issue to take a stand on. I agree, they should have due process. But now the issues is, Democrats want immigrant criminals to be brought back to the US.
I think trump’s genius is the following: he always has enemies. Immigrants, brown people, Europe, china, trade, etc. Dems don’t have many enemies and unfortunately the ones they could attack, billionaires, have ACTUAL power. That is why they are screwed.
In 18 months, the Dems will be able to campaign on human decency, a right to due process, following the constitution, and the importance of being a good person and doing the right thing. Republicans...just the opposite. One would hope that, along with what is likely to be a spiraling economy, the Dems will hold a winning hand.
You know what’s sad…I think if they do that it would be a loser strategy. People HATE the system/government. Maybe shit gets so bad that the people change but if Covid killing a million people didn’t do it I doubt taking brown people to a gulag will do it. I hope im wrong
Sadly, you're right. And as long as most people watch FOX News and they carry water for Trump, No one will see how wrong Trump's actions against immigrants are. They see Democrats working for foreigners so they can come to this country illegally and vote. That is actually a thing they tell Trump voters.
And the truth of the matter is he he has been known to associate with that gang, while probably not actively. However he was once arrested for beating his wife. He isnt a gangster, but neither is a Saint.
But that's not the point, he supposedly was in the wrong place, at the wrong time and a mistake was made.
But what's really important is Trump is refusing to follow the Supreme Court ruling, which means he is totally above the law.
That’s true. But he’s not done anything bad enough to warrant being in a prison in El Salvation. He needs due process to determine exactly what the situation is.
Not talking about maga. They are a lost cause. Talking about undecided or Biden-Trump voters. This will not penetrate their media and will be forgotten about in a month. Just like kids being put into cages, a million people dying of covid and the recession Trump/covid caused. Maybe I’m wrong but no one and I mean no one gives 2 shits about due process and won’t look hard enough to think “shit this can happened to me!” Hope I’m wrong but the last 10 years say i won’t be. Hope I am.

Why bother with a constitution and living in a free country at all then?

From your mouth to God's ears.
I hope we aren’t wishful thinking. That seems a long way away.

MAGA are absolutely convinced that García is in fact a gang member and they’re using soft-on-crime arguments. You can’t convince them otherwise.
