Yours is one of the most insightful comments that I've ever seen on this subject, Shawn. You have identified what in my opinion is the single greatest threat we face. That threat is the tendency of most people not to get involved, even if they oppose the sin that is being done. To me, this more than any other factor is why our democracy is at risk of being hijacked by bigots, fascists, Christian zealots, and capitalist extremists. If, as you've argued, those of us who are in the majority would reliably step up democracy would be secure and we'd have a much fairer society. At this point, I'm just hoping we can preserve even our diminished democracy.
