I feel heartbroken that -as an ordinary citizen (white, elderly) that grew up as a child being told "the policeman is your friend" now feel law enforcement are the enemy of the public, allied to the majority political party against the minority party, more likely to be brutal or untrustworthy. Compared to a year ago I feel less likely to report a crime, less likely to cooperate or interact with law enforcement, and have stopped giving to the local police benevolent association. The entanglement of ICE with local police, and the manipulation of branches of law enforcement by the current administration are transforming our landscape of public trust. This serves no one well.
