As the Triad's British correspondent I feel obliged to let you all know that the mood here is ominous.

Not just for Her Majesty and her health but as the Guardian's article JVL has linked to hints at, this is a leap into the unknown.

Literally the most famous person in the world and a constant in virtually all of our lives - what can come next?

Procedurally we know but there are so many other intangibles. Her first Prime Minister was Sir Winston Churchill, born in 1874. Her latest the 15th, Liz Truss, who she met this week was born 101 years later - she straddles the pre-atomic age and the early stages of the singularity, food rationing and NFT's, the rise and fall of the third Reich, the Soviet Union and the British Empire itself.

The BBC has suspended normal programming and all newscasters are in black tie.

We hope for the best but fear for the worst.

Postscript - The Queen Is Dead.

Long Live The King.

I am curious as to whether Charles will remain King or abdicate in favor of his son.

Charles is a name of ill-omen WRT English Monarchs.

She was the last Queen to change the wheel bearings on a motorbike. A true icon of her time.

There is a saying in show business that you should never follow a better act. The Queen may be the best act and she will certainly be tough to follow. I pity Charles.

Am very sorry for what must be a disorienting moment. I hope the bitter eventually gives way to the sweet for her remarkable life.
