The last night of the convention was so damned impressive, words really can't do it justice. I wonder how quickly everyone is going to realize what the Democrats did so effectively and powerfully - they co-opted the language, messaging, and power of pre-Trump conservatism. It was fruit ripe for the taking, and the people who orchestrated this triumph clearly thought, heck, why not take it? I was inspired this week to sign up as a volunteer for the Democratic candidate in my California House swing district. His politics are way left of mine, but I couldn't possibly care less. I'm all in on this movement. Kudos to the Democratic Party for pulling off a masterful, compelling, and persuasive convention and message to the American people. I'm looking forward to my first canvassing outing this weekend.
Bravo to you for being active! I agree the fruit was ripe for the taking. IMO, they took it because like Obama, 1. her love of country was rooted in her own story of being different [not white], without family connections and money, and succeeding to the pinnacle of winning the nomination by working hard; 2. the "grievence/identity" wing of the Left is not the way to win.
Awesome and good for you! I'm canvassing for George Whitesides here in CA-27. Hopefully this cycle we at last (and for good) can say goodbye to Mike Garcia, who should never be forgiven for voting to object to the 2020 election certification.
He is the toss-up House race closest to me. I canvassed for Katie Hill in that district that she flipped for the Dems. [And I met Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelley as a surprise gift when we were done - love them!] I will be doing something for Whitesides, donating if not canvassing.
Yes. While they might as well call it today for Trump in my bright red corner of the world, there is a flicker of possibility for a senate candidate here attempting to oust Hawley and the past few weeks have nudged my chronic ennui into "doing something" for him. Plus, the convention was a fabulous showcase for the up-and-coming Dem talent that gives me hope if we're able to keep the possibility of future elections alive this cycle.
Steven, I, for one, would be interested, from a writer with time on his hands, and who is a new-comer to canvassing, at the reactions, both yours and the people you meet and to whom you talk.
I went canvassing for Dave Min in CA-47 a couple of weeks ago.
We were sent to likely Democratic voters' houses, so no we didn't have to deal with any nastiness from Trump supporters. The vast majority of the people we visited didn't open the door/weren't at home. Here are some sample reactions from the people we did meet:
1.
"Sir, we're canvassing for Dave Min"
"I have no idea what that is"
"Dave Min, he's the candidate for this congressional district? He's a Democrat?"
"Oh, a Democrat! Yes, I'll support him! Great!"
2.
"Ma'am, we're canvassing for Dave Min, he's-"
"Yes, I know, I'm voting for him, and I'm busy so I don't have time to listen to your spiel, bye"
3.
A couple of undecideds; we left them a flyer
4.
"It's great that you're doing this! Yes, I'm voting for him."
"Ma'am, thank you for your support, may we talk with your husband too?"
"He's not home. But he'll vote the way I tell him. He's a good husband [wink]"
Thanks for sharing. Here in Germany there is no way I could do anything like that. So I just take a protest sign to the US Consulate weekly and walk up and down for 30-45 minutes.

Good for you! I'm going canvassing for Dave Min in CA-47. Volunteers of America!!! 😁

I was thinking of bringing my sugar-free chocolate chip cookies. But it's so darn hot here!
So I count 3 votes for Lucas Kunce! You, me, my husband.
Maybe even my husband. He's Mr. Wall Street Journal but even he has had it with Hawley. Anyway, it's a good start....
Interesting, Linda. Why has he had it with Hawley?
The preening, piousness and Christian nationalism (as a kid he refused to go to Sunday School because it conflicted with Rocky and Bullwinkle on TV).

Thanks David. I'd be very happy to!
