When Texans were literally freezing to death last year, Cruz went to Cancun. Now, in the aftermath of our children being gunned down, both Cruz and Abbott are heading for the NRA Convention, as featured speakers, while Cornyn suddenly remembered a scheduling conflict because he has to be in D.C. for "personal" reasons....
They all know that the outrage will die down with both the media and citizens in the coming days and weeks. They are banking on the fact that no one will feel compelled to vote them out of office by the time that opportunity presents itself.
This problem will not be solved unless and until voters decide to make it a priority when choosing who to vote in and who to vote out.
Texas may be another 2-4 election cycles away from turning blue, but many of us here are working towards that very eventuality. It's a cause that Americans around the country should support in whatever way they can, because once Texas' 38 electoral votes go blue, it will go a very long way towards defeating trumpism and political minority rule in D.C.

We need a group (doesn't have to be democrats, but they should) to apply the following methodology to sensible gun control: "Cathargo Delenda Est". Tie these guys to the NRA and gun lobby and mention it all the time. ALL THE TIME. NRA = Child Killers = Pols taking money from them. Be fine with anyone who supports sensible reform, but tear down Cruz, Abbott, Trump, etc., etc., etc. on that line. And if that means including a dem here or there, so be it. Dead school children should never be the price of freedom.
I think SarahтАЩs Georgia focus group captured the problemтАжno matter how bad it gets for folks in these states, or how repugnant these Republican figures are, for many voters anything - literally anything - is better than a Dem. ThatтАЩs a big part of the problem and I donтАЩt know that thereтАЩs a solution for it.
The solution is all of the groups in Georgia (including but not limited to, Stacy Abrahm's group) that work tirelessly to register voters and turn them out to vote. They stay in constant contact, not just during the election cycle seasons. We have many groups here in Texas doing that work. They are relentless in talking to voters, going into any and every part of the state. But they need funding, and that is an excellent way for people across the country to get involved. Why donate to a democrat running against MTG in a small GA district, when there is ZERO chance any democrat can win that district? Put that money to better use in purple states to help fund the work that needs to be done for the long-term benefit of everyone?
Hi Deb (from another Deb)! I've supported Powered by People before (poweredxpeople.org) but I'm not sure how active it still is because it was originally founded by Beto O'Rourke after he dropped out of the presidential primary a few years ago - and now he's running for governor, so not sure how that is working (I since switched my donation over to his campaign). Their website is dreadful though - you almost have to google it to see which page you want to go to as it really doesn't have a site map or menu....
But the website I like the best is progesstexas.org because it gives a ton of ways to volunteer or donate, based upon which issue(s) motivate you the most to become engaged. That's where I would start for Texas, but for those who don't believe Texas is flip-able, I'd recommend finding similar organizations in any purple state they do think is flip-able.
If you look at the presidential election results, Democrats have consistently been cutting the Republicans' advantage in Texas. Texas will definitely be competitive in 2024. Texas is not becoming more Republican. Ohio and Florida is, but Texas is not.
Yep, that's what happens when major tech employers move into your state with all those job openings. People who tend to vote for Democrats soon follow for the jobs.
That said, the governor and legislator are doing everything they can to make the state less attractive for cross-state migration.
Bear in mind that the GOP profits from the base suffering, to an extent. Neither covid nor power outages seem to have truly damaged the standing of the state party.
It's not necessarily a representative sample, but for example when the ERCOT posting about turning up thermostats to 78 was on FB, there were numerous replies to the effect of "And the liberals want us to all switch to electric cars, HA!"

Media needs to be relentless just as they were with "her emails" and Benghazi. Otherwise, in a month it will be business as usual.

@MoosesMom - can you give us the names of groups in TX that you would recommend?
