I remember when “emotional intelligence” arrived as a concept for predicting a successful life - more than IQ. A huge component of emotional intelligence is delayed gratification. That’s what a large swath of the country doesn’t have. There’s an expectation that inflation should be solved NOW. Gas prices should fall NOW.
And let me jump on my hobby horse about how tired I am of this never ending drum beat since 2016 for us educated voters to expend a fair amount of energy trying to “understand” Trump voters. Show me an article where THEY are being admonished to understand Biden voters, now that they are out of power. Never. Violence is their tool, not understanding - that would be woke.
The economy is unfair. When people are treated unfairly, they get defensive. The working class isn't going for Biden, but they're not going for traditional Republicans either. They are rejecting the politics of the past, and that's a logical reaction.
Again what is the definition of working class. I worked a job for a paycheck. I didn't build cars, but I had to go to work every day.
Trump, the spoiled brat of a millionaire.
Trump cheated all the contractors and trades people who worked for him. When they complained, he said "sue me". He had to start hiring Russian immigrants build his buildings because he couldn't get anyone else to work for him. Yeah, he's regular working class hero.
It doesn't help that the Democratic agenda was hamstrung by two nominal Democratic Senators. At least one of those two was honest enough to change her party to Independent.
Dems always have to water down programs that might actually improve the lot of the working class, like affordable healthcare, childcare etc; but their lack of deep thought and/or truthful information is exploited by the monied class
The economy is always unfair. It has always been unfair. It will be unfair in the future. It was unfair before capitalism. Because the economy is not a living thing, it simply exists, and it responds to what people do.
The reality is, they might reject the policies and politics of the past, and that might be perfectly fine, but they are not embracing any kind of new policies or proposing any kind of new politics to benefit anyone, least of all themselves. Political realignments happen, that's always to be expected. But nothing these voters want or are proposing will actually benefit them, and in many cases will actually harm them. That's not a logical reaction. Being against everything is not a policy, it's simply irrational.
You could say that the policy of 'we want these things made here' is a practical policy, but 'we want everyone to buy the same things they always have so none of us lose our jobs' is not a practical policy position.

Well stated. I’d add that violence against fellow citizens isn’t benefiting them either. They have a blood lust that isn’t about better policies.
