Perhaps Durham is being too cute and doing Marc Antony from Julius Caesar. "Mueller based his investigation on a hoax, but he too is an honorable man". Personally I don't think Durham is worthy to shine Mueller's shoes.
Durham had to play down this knowledge because it would look very silly that he spent 4 years investigating an investigation "hoax" that really did find nefarious ties between Trump's campaign and the Russians.

He also doesn't read or watch any news.

I wouldn’t be shocked. Then he’d have to admit the investigation was a fraud and nothing more than a red herring.
