The urban rural divide is real, and every state has it, even the deep red or deep blue states. I wonder if it was always that way, and I just didn’t know? It feels recent.
Yeah, I grew up in rural Northern California and it wasn’t a big deal then. People weren’t as polarized and people mostly got their info from legacy media. There were definitely some kooks - “Get us out of the United Nations” and a guy who wouldn’t pay his taxes to the IRS, because, well, you know.
Ah yes, the good old days of legacy media. I miss it. I wonder if we will ever find that level of equilibrium in today’s media inundation. It’s weird to remember how the explosion of information with the advent of the internet and pocket computers seemed at first like an unmitigated good thing. At least to me.
I have relatives in Oregon, Prineville, Madras, Ashland, etc - mostly right wingers. Sigh.
