Imagine spending hundreds of thousands to dollars and a decade of your life to become a barista, because you always dreamed of serving people Frappuccinos. You get reimbursed partially based on customer satisfaction, this is considered a "quality metric". Then around 2021, half of your customers arrive at Starbucks with the preconceived notion that you, the barista, are in league with Starbucks, the US government, and Bill Gates to poison them. You stand there shocked, wondering "why did this person even come to Starbuck? How on earth can I provide any service to someone who views me as an adversary? Why on earth did I do this?" However, every moral, legal, and societal norm is that you smile, and serve them. (Also, remember, you have to pay back those loans for Barista school)
Welcome to the field of medicine! Expect the doctor shortage to worsen.

That's why rural areas are bleeding medical personnel at every level, and what's going to be left behind are novices, quacks, and chiropractors.
Between that and the closure of small hospitals and clinics, the life expectancy in rural areas is probably going to take a pretty (un)healthy drop.
On the upside... Telemedicine?...
You're just trying to make me feel better about the med school thing . . .
