I can find the guy reprehensible. I'm pretty sure they're counting on that as a general sentiment so it gets a pass - because the issue is that without charging him they are setting a dangerous precedent. They are effectively signaling that "people that say stuff we don't like can be detained without charges." - and there's a lot of us that say stuff they don't like.
