The double standard in American discourse of who speaks and what they can say over the Israel Palestine conflict has long bothered me. And the current administration is trying to criminalize any criticism of Israel and equate it with antisemitism.
I was disappointed in the Bulwark commentators who basically assumed him guilty of something since he is ‘Palestinian’ and that he must support Hamas or at least be somewhat terrorist adjacent. Tim muttered early about how he was born in Syria, and Sarah commenting about how he was ‘careful’ with what he says as if he was hiding his true self somewhere — one need only look at the comments here to see how rampant that is. No one would ever treat an Israeli or Jewish commentator on the conflict the same way.
A clear example of this is the Oscar winner for best documentary 2025 ‘No other Land’. The film which is produced by both Israelis and Palestinians documents the destruction of a Palestinian community in the West Bank. You cannot see this film on streaming because it has no US distributor — despite being distributed in 24 countries. It has played in small independent theaters, but as an example of our free speech warriors, the mayor of Miami Beach is trying to get the license of ‘O Cinema’ pulled for paying the documentary. If this isn’t an example of trying squash any speech that puts the Israeli government and pro-Israel groups in a less than flattering light, then I don’t know what is. It definitely is about who gets to control the narrative and what can or cannot be said.
Don’t get me wrong, Hamas is a terrorist group the crimes they committed on October 7 2023 were horrific, and those responsible should be brought to account, but a quick look under the Israeli hood and you’ll find a lot of horrors there as well — the use of Palestinians as human shields to clear buildings in Gaza is one such example. And it is the hypocrisy of treating all Palestinians as basically terrorists, and Israelis as the moral actors that I object to.
I would also like to see the ADL which praised Kahlil’s arrest, comment on Donald Trump calling Chuck Schumer a ‘Palestinian’. How is this not a classic case of Trump’s antisemitism? Or if you want another example see Timothy Snyder’s article on how he saw the Trump/Vance take down of Zelensky as an example of antisemitism.
Are these really the people you want defending free speech and defending you from antisemitism?

No, but they are the only ones doing protecting us Jews from antisemitism. Its not the time to be choosy.
