Sorry, Mr. Schoenfeld, this is where the train of thought goes off the rails. If Mr. Teixeira's "stupidity" (your word), as compared to the ideological commitments of the people to whom you compare him should be a factor at all in evaluating his guilt, it seems to me to be more a mitigating factor than an aggravating one. Someone who harms the country is culpable and should be punished regardless, but I'd be more inclined to be a bit lenient toward someone whose betrayal was the result of showing off then toward someone for whom the betrayal was the whole point.
