I strongly agree with those who suggest we just get rid of tipping, and build higher wages into the pricing structure. Tipping has gotten completely out of hand. Having said that, I have a question for you. Would you seriously try to make this argument, if you were sat at a table with a restaurant server and a person who works for a roofing contractor during the summer. They both work hard and both receive about the same income for a days work. I’d love to be a fly on the wall as you tried to explain to the roofer, who just spent 8 dirty hours on a scorching hot roof, why they should be subject to income tax on their earnings, while the server, who worked in an air conditioned building should not be taxed on most of their earnings.
