I don't think it's an accident that the most popular baseball teams are in NYC, Chicago, Boston and Cleveland, and places where it's just pleasant to be outside on a summer evening. (I think Tampa and Miami and the TX teams have retractable roofs.) This at least partially accounts for why baseball isn't as popular a pastime down south.
