If Trump declares, he’s the presumptive nominee, which is bad, and there is no reason to repeat why. But the unknown with Trump is, who will he choose to be his running mate. Yesterday I read an article in The Atlantic by Barton Gellman ( I think it was Gellman) about Michael Flynn, who has gone around the bend. The article isn’t unkind to him, but it isn’t flattering. It describes a person who is not so much dishonest as delusional. And the article suggests that he may have future political aspirations, and that Trump may consider him as a running mate. The part about him being a potential running mate for Trump is speculation, but it reinforced for me that a second Trump term includes not only Trump, but it will also include people like Flynn. This isn’t a novel insight, it’s just that the Trump scenario is not just depressing- it is- it’s terrifying, and I sometimes forget that.

Just imagine television ads featuring Liz Chaney asking Flynn if he believes the attack on the Capitol was morally justified, then if it was legally justified, then if he believes in the peaceful transition of power, and Flynn saying "The Fifth" to each one of those. Yes, the MAGAverse will love it, but that would be hugely damaging to a Trump ticket.

Oops, spelling correction: Cheney, not Chaney. This is Liz, not Lon. 😏

Now I am imagining the Hunchback of Notre Dame interviewing Flynn.

Well, we know who WON'T be VP.. or any other position in a new Trump Administration--Mike Pence.

A lot of the " (not so) responsible adults" that were around the first time won't be seen again either. I shudder to think of the type of people he will put in and that a groveling GoP Senate would approve.

I wonder what positions Javanka will hold and if the boys will get seats.

Yuuuuuuup. Trump was obsessed with Pence's loyalty (or perceived lack thereof) way prior to ambivalently watching an armed insurrection try to publicly execute him on the steps of the Capitol. His new VP must be slavishly devoted to him. He must have no God save Donald Trump. Personally I think he'll pick a woman to look "naturally subordinate to him". And he'll pick someone who otherwise would never have made it onto the national stage. I'm thinking Kristi Noem. The upside is that he will only pick a VP who will diminish his own electability.

By all accounts, Trump was far from ambivalently watching TV on Jan 6.

He's going up to Alaska, today, to speak at a rally for Sarah Palin...

I was kind of leaning towards a woman in my mental scenarios. It would work for him on a number of levels.

It won't be anyone he would see as a potential replacement or threat (IOW, no DeSantis). It could be someone like Miss Lindsey or Rafe Cruz.

I don’t know about running mate, but certainly a high ranking position in the Trump administration, which is actually more frightening than VP, unless Trump dies in office.
