Just saw Banshees today at my local Art House Cinema (here in MT).

Really a wonderful movie and can't really pigeon-hole it (which is good). The person who introduced it to us (the audience) described it as a fairy tale and I think that's very apt.

The setting and cinematography are gorgeous and the work of the actors is fantastic! Funny, emotional, puzzling and beautiful.

I also think it is more a parable than a metaphor--open to many interpretations as Sonny points out with his description of this as a metaphor for the Irish Civil War as well as Thanksgiving and the silliness of the US "national divorce" talk.

It's a movie with meanings and themes (like any good art) that are very much more than a reductive metaphor. Really a well done film and would recommend it highly. (Definitely will be up for awards)
