The anti antis collectively placing the blame for future dysfunction at the feet of Democrats takes some serious chutzpah. Even in his exit press conference, McCarthy blamed Democrats again. Imagine cutting off your nose to spite your face after everything that has just happened. The stupidity is mind boggling.

He does that because his Orange God taught him that you can make your own reality, if you're a star. Kevin doesn't yet quite realize he is not that star, only The Orange One is. When you don't like the reality on Earth 1, you make up your own. On Earth 2 they let you do that.
Has the idea that the Democrats must/will save the Republicans from their own crazy fringe been the strategy of the non-fringe since 2017? Isn't that part of the wishful thinking that has keep the non fringe silent about the outrages perpetrated by the former president and his minions?
What consequence can there be for Gaetz? The only one is irrelevance and the GOP hasn't exactly shown that they are willing to banish people like Gaetz to such a place.
The idea that after all the backstabbing Kevin did to Democrats, including backing out of a deal with the President of the United States, he still thought the Dems would ride to his rescue and that he bears no blame for the fact that they didn't - is truly delusional.
ThatтАЩs exactly it though. Everyone wants Democrats to act like adults and then they want to fail against those exact Democrats for actually acting like adults!
The Democrats had no obligation to help Kevin keep his speakership. None at all. The majority has the responsibility of choosing their leadership, not the minority. And especially not after Kevin McCarthy stabbed them in the back - again - after they came to his rescue to prevent the government shutdown. In fact, more Democrats than republicans helped ole Kevin.
The Democrats weren't 'siding with the Gaetz' wing. They were sending a message about the consequences of being a backstabber.
Eye for eye, right? Will Jim Jordan be able to negotiate a spending bill in 40 days? Will Scalese get aid for Ukraine? Will they even try? McCarthy was an ass, but he kept the wheels of government (more or less) turning. Dems traded that in for chaos, for which they will be blamed. They may have been justified in giving McCarthy the shiv, but it doesnтАЩt seem to have been a smart moveтАФunless they have some grand plan, a way out, which seems improbable.
IтАЩm wondering how the Republicans come up with anyone in their caucus who wants the terrible job AND who can get a near unanimous vote of the GOP members. Unless.... if Trump is actually nominated and he doesnтАЩt immediately decline, who would actually against the MAGA king except the Democrats? The sh*t show just keeps getting sh*ttier.
McCarthy could have done the very thing you are chastising Dems for not doing. He specifically said, repeatedly I might add, that he wasnтАЩt going to negotiate for Dem votes.
The Democrats are in no way responsible for the republican dysfunction in the house. THEY have no responsibility for what happened yesterday. THEY didn't cause the republican civil war. THEY didn't vote for the rule that Kevin negotiated that allowed a single member to call for vacating the chair. THEY've done everything they could to keep the government running - averting two government shutdowns when Kevin McCarthy couldn't control his own caucus.
I'm sick to death of Democrats getting blamed every damned time the republicans blow things up. As for an 'eye for eye', you can't be serious? Even after Kevin shivved them and the President over the debt ceiling deal, they STILL came to his rescue last week to keep the government running.
How about The Party of Personal Responsibility taking some for a change? How about that?
So Dems sided with Gaetz, hardly a stance to be proud of. We are supposed to be above pettiness. RтАЩs go low, we go high. The interests of the country were ill served yesterday.
I'd like to see what shakes out in the next week or so. I think if the Dems had "come to the rescue" they simply would have been preserving the staus quo. Kevin and the rest of the cowardly bunch would have continued trashing Biden and the Dems, they wouldn't budge on aid for Ukraine, and they wouldn't face the music for empowering the radical fringe. Maybe they will consider changing the rule allowing one person the ability to motion to vacate the chair. Maybe they will censure Gaetz or throw him out of the Republican party. Some are already painting Gaetz as a traitor for siding with the "AOC, Squad, Democrats". I think the interests of the country might be better served if they nominated a speaker that wouldn't empower the crazy caucus. Maybe the next one up for the gavel might figure out they have to play nicer with the Dems if they don't want to end up like Kevin. And they might even get some help across the aisle with isolating some of the looneys (wishful thinking).
Ukraine aid is in greater jeopardy today than it was yesterday. The names being floated to replace McCarthy are more extreme, more MAGA, not less. Maybe saner heads will prevail. Maybe moderate members can pull a rabbit out of a hat. But as of now, status quoтАФbad as it wasтАФwas better than the chaos that seems likely to ensue.
Blame Gaetz and his ilk - and Kevin McCarthy for being willing to put his head in their noose just so he could hold the Speaker's gavel. Your ire at the Democrats is misplaced. It sounds exactly like the excuse-making coming from the house Rs and their media mouthpieces.
I even heard Jon Berman on CNN this morning trying to get a congresswoman from Massachusetts to acknowledge it was the Democrats responsibility to save Kevin, or face a worse Speaker. The congresswoman would have none of it. She was poised, intelligent, and matter of fact.
I find it fascinating (in a depressing way) that the Republicans' 40 year war against reality based media has produced a bias in said media for the Republican narrative.
Here we have the radicals in the GOP initiating the vote to oust their own Speaker of the House, the GOP conference DID NOT VOTE TO KEEP HIM, and the "reality based media" asks "What is wrong with Democrats".
I saw a Virginia Republican ad that said "A 15 week abortion ban isn't a ban so don't call the ban a ban." They wage a war on reality AND the English language, it's infuriating.
He is not a smart guy. He is one of those folks who was able to rise through the ranks of RW media (because ignorance is easier there) and then became anti Trump but never shed is ignorance.
His was one of many. And itтАЩs all of the same people that have bemoaned TrumpтАЩs ascendency for years but then have willingly voted for him or supported him for the last 8 years. ItтАЩs NRO, the WSJ OpEd page, the worst of the online pundits.

There was zero discussion on any consequences for Gaetz today --- it was all the strategy and voting of the Dems.
What consequence can there be for Gaetz? The only one is irrelevance and the GOP hasn't exactly shown that they are willing to banish people like Gaetz to such a place.
I think Gaetz' standing has gone up, in the circles that matter to him.

True, but siding with the Gaetz wing was not a better option.
It wasnтАЩt siding with the Gaetz wing. ThatтАЩs objectively not what Democrats were doing.
With whom did they vote? It was GaetzтАЩs initiative for heavenтАЩs sake.
They voted against McCarthy. They didnтАЩt vote for Gaetz. You can lay all your outrage at the feet of Kevin McCarthy.

Yes, they were ill-served because Kevin McCarthy chose his office rather than the American people.

Perhaps if he had any self awareness. But...nah ЁЯШБ
I think JVL has said that Democrats have to bat a 1000 all the time, while Republicans are held to a different standard.
They're not held to any standard.
Are you not entertained??!?
I even heard Jon Berman on CNN this morning trying to get a congresswoman from Massachusetts to acknowledge it was the Democrats responsibility to save Kevin, or face a worse Speaker. The congresswoman would have none of it. She was poised, intelligent, and matter of fact.
Was the congresswoman from a swing district?
How could anyone be worse? they are all a bunch of A-holes.
CNN is a pathetic group of mostly inept тАЬjournalistsтАЭ. There are a handful that arenтАЩt crap.
People hate CNN because they try to stay more in the center. That's when both sides come after you.

I so hope
Matt Lewis' take this am in the Daily Beast made me roll my eyes so hard I was afraid my contacts were going to be stuck at the back of my head
He is not a smart guy. He is one of those folks who was able to rise through the ranks of RW media (because ignorance is easier there) and then became anti Trump but never shed is ignorance.
Exactly, ignorance is not something you have, it is a case of NOT having something (knowledge).

"Kevin's a piece of shit". -- Adam Kinzinger.
ThatтАЩs why he didnтАЩt mind what the rioters smeared over the capital walls. Like recognises like.
I saw that and was yelling, "you're lying!" at my phone ЁЯЩД
Truth!
However, If the anti antis didn't have chutzpah, they wouldn't have anything.
