I was a little miffed today to read Charlie's link to the GOP meeting. This was the quote that jumped out at me: "Further fueling the raw feelings are personal threats lawmakers and their families are now facing over the speaker vote. Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-Ga.) disclosed to his colleagues on Thursday that he had placed a sheriff at his daughter’s school."
Don't these people realize that ordinary librarians, teachers, school board members, and small town commissioners do not have the resources to place sheriffs at their children's schools? Why are death threats to those people A-OK?
When is someone going to come out and make a speech that says, "If you're threatening violence for a difference of political opinion, we don't want you in our party. You are not a Republican. You are not a Democrat. And you're definitely not a patriot."?
The Republicans find a spine when it's their political careers. Where were they in the past six years and in the run up to Jan 6? Where were the on Trump's second impeachment?
I still hope some journalist does a deep dive to find out how much the country is now spending on personal security compared to recent past. Finally; an economic growth sector thanks to GOP rule.
Whether you're a Republican or a Democrat, if you're getting death threats, they're coming from the same people. And those people don't vote for Democrats. The Republicans and rightwing media spent years enraging these people into menaces against Democrats, and thought nothing of it. In fact, I'd say they thought it a rather positive development. Now that their goons are coming for some of their own, they're not so pleased with how things have turned out.
Rush Limbaugh used to whisper into the radio with as much venom in his voice that ‘They’ were coming to get you. Could be any of your neighbors - no matter which party- that did not toe the ideological line.
If a whack job with a hammer came after McCarthy, or Christie, or Romney, or almost any GOP Congress member, honestly, I would fully expect Trump to joke about it. I hope those representatives realize that.
Because the New Republican Party is run by a John Gotti wannabe. They don't expect to change people's minds with ideas. They don't have ideas. The need intimidation. Then they give their followers guns.

Yeah, the whack job with a hammer might be in a Republican house next. Funny to joke about or something to finally wake these idiots up about?

Right. Minority rule - one way or another.
