Amanda's piece was great, but I do have one small request, and maybe it will start a trend in journalism generally. Whenever quoting a Republican referring to the "Democrat Party," maybe publish the quote with a (sic), like "Democrat (sic) Party." These Republicans intentionally botch the term because A) They're assholes and B) They delight in the performative disrespect (see A). Democrats don't routinely misname the Republican Party, because they're not children, and they don't view their voters as petulant little schoolyard imps.

Great idea. I hope the Bulwark, at least, will do this. We need to chip away at their childish idiocy wherever we can and not concede any ground.

To be fair, it's not like there's a good version for Democrats to use. The members of the Republican Party are Republicans while the members of the Democratic Party are Democrats. Writing something snarky about the "Republic Party" just doesn't make sense.

I do wish there were an obvious candidate to retaliate with ("GQP" and "Rapepublicans" just seem try-hard and don't have the same plausible deniability asshole affect as "Democrat Party"). I 100% agree that Democratic politicians and leaders are much less childlike than the Republican leaders about this sort of thing, but this example might need an asterisk to reflect the unequal opportunity for performative sass.

I always enjoy highlighting their obstructionism and lack of policy platform. "Republican't".

Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue, and is awkward to type, but fun.

I'd say to dispense with the plausible deniability angle. Call them the GQP and when asked, just state that you're calling it like you see it. "Saw all those people at the Trump Rally giving the Q salute to him, what else am I supposed to make of them?" Also, "Can't seem to get any of them on record rejecting their conspiratorial and racist garbage."

I don't want democrats to stoop to GOP levels, but that doesn't mean that they should play nice all time. When the truth is on your side, no problem with brutal honesty that stays devoid of personal attacks and racist garbage.
