It occurred to me that the Biden administration's decision also dings Alabama for its defiance of the Supreme Court ruling regarding its district map. A two-fer! Plus, it helps push back at all those narratives about Democrats not knowing how to fight back. (You think Republicans wouldn't have played dirty if the shoe had been on the other foot! Hilarious, isn't it?) And finally, doesn't it save taxpayer money to stay where they are?
Yup. It was a huge national security issue. CO is ready, and is next door to the AF Academy in CO Springs where fresh recruits can be easily transferred. Moved to AL, Space Command wouldn't even be *ready* until 2030(!) as per the analysis. And given the aggressiveness of China and other autocratic states at this time, it was actually quite a pragmatic, and security minded move.

saves money AND it helps troop readiness. I think I read that if it moved to ALA that the fort wouldn't be ready til 2030 or something?

Wow, Joan. Thanks for the additional context. You are right -- makes the decision look even better. 2030 is way too far in the future . . .
