I’m not a strategist but I don’t think Carville was completely off base. Dems need to be LOUD in their anger, but they should in NO way assist MAGA in moving policy. MAGA owns all chambers so let the own every policy decision they make. Dems should get everything they want or nothing it all. They have bailed out republicans time and time again then get blamed for any fall out. I don’t want the govt to shut down, but why would Dems vote for a CR or massive tax cuts that will crush their constituents - let it be the albatross around MAGAs neck.
I'm cool with letting POLICY go thru, to let MAGA voters experience the consequences. But there must be a way to fight the restructuring of the government itself. If there is anything Dems can do to assert congressional power opposing Trump/Musk/Patel et illegal acts, that's the hill to die on. If Trump et al succeed in creating an authoritarian presidency, it will not matter who controls Congress, nor will it matter what the voters actually want.
Totally agree…gutting our government and blatant authoritarianism should be fought at every turn - and they should be LOUD about the impacts on middle America, but helping MAGA pass any legislation would be a mistake because the republicans will just hang the fallout from THEIR policies around the Dems…as history has shown us.
I am torn between "let the bad things happen and then make sure MAGA is blamed for it" and the need for people to see the Dems fighting the bad things. If we don't see resistance, or if they do silly token-ish things like wearing pink suits to the Joint Address, it looks like they don't really care.
