I feel like I am unfairly harsh on Charlie because of two factors: 1) he is in my ears and inbox daily, it's a simple matter of volume, but more importantly 2) he is sitting in a (perhaps THE) critical swing state atop a sizable heap of political connections and credibility. As JVL is highlighting consistently this week, the stakes are extreme. Be alarmed. Do more than have Ruy Teixeira on to chin-stroke and Monday morning quarterback Democratic messaging. Start actively building the anti-Trump coalition Sarah talks about with any tool that's available to you.
No it isn’t. Charlie’s RW retard comes out in full force on occasion, especially when he talks to Will and Ruy. I hate to say it, but as a native Texan, Will reminds me of all the white moderate liberal kids I went to school with: absolute wimps who so feared physical confrontation that they would rather give up their lunch money everyday than fight back. That will not work in this situation; the MAGAs will take your lunch and give you a wedgie no matter how often you tell them you see their point.
As for Ruy, well a man as wrong as often as he is should be ashamed, but I suppose that would assume one has shame. Considering he works at AEI, that tells us all we need to know.
I couldn't agree more, except I agree Mandela Barnes was not a good candidate for a swing state like WI. What would have been interesting is why the WI Dems couldn't get a better candidate.
Which is why maybe someone sitting in Wisconsin with a sizable media megaphone should have walked the walk and invited Sarah Godlewski on as a guest. Just spitballing.
Well, he didn't. Milwaukee had lower-than-expected turnout.
Black Dem turnout has been down in the last two election cycles. I did some searching as to why - apprently it peaked in '08 and started declining since. I did find that the DNC is running focus groups to find out why.
Judge Protasiewicz had a huge victory in WI in April. I could not find any data on Black turnout in Milwaukee in that election.
I hope the Dems figure this out and what to do about it.
Perhaps because Democrats failed to deliver on that voting rights act legislation? Also.. inflation. I think the perceived economy, the kitchen table politics is what is going to be the largest challenge. I am visiting Mass. and almost every restaurant wants about $20 for a hamburger. Insanity.
Yes, that could very well be. I just looked at two restaurants in my neighborhood, both price range $$ - $$$, and the burgers are $18. Also, some students were commenting on the daily special at the snack bar at school (meat/chicken and rice, tacos, mac and cheese, sloppy joes and fries) is $10. It was $8 last year. That's a 20% increase. That's a big increase.
But price is what the market will bear. Consumer behavior will bring prices down. Don't go out to eat as much and bring your lunch. Inflation is not gonna make me vote for a deranged demagogue. That should be what the voters are basing their vote on. And it's up to the Dems to get that message across.
I don't think you can be too harsh on Charlie. He had a lot to do with the evolution of the present-day s**t-show that is the Wisconsin GOP. And now he makes a living offering his mea culpa for it as well as offer Dems advice on who to run and how to campaign. I find his political judgement extremely flawed.
Honestly I can’t speak to it. I doubt it was this crazy but I have a feeling a lot of the legislators are the same as they were 10 years ago. No idea what that means though because I could never ever predict how absolutely bat shit crazy everyone in the party is now.
Mostly yes. Just the pretense of valuing norms, democracy, and their fellow Americans has been stripped away. I suppose Charlie was one of a marginal portion who truly believed in the pretense and left when it was exposed as such but there clearly weren't many like him.
Flawed or not I find that he has done nothing to learn about the Democratic coalition and how messaging and policies differ because of it. The Democratic coalition is not a monolith so you can’t treat Democratic voters like Republican voters. That with the difference in the media ecosystem means there has to be a different approach.

Why did she drop out and endorse Barnes?
I'd guess to win in that state they need high turnout in Milwaukee, and he was their best hope to increase black voter enthusiasm.
Well, he didn't. Milwaukee had lower-than-expected turnout.

He supported the pre-Trump WI GOP. Is the current WI GOP the same party?

That's likely, I think, as that's Bill Kristol's story.

I think they should have started building the anti-trump coalition the day the tangerine toddler came down the escalator.
I don't think that's fair. NOBODY that day thought he would win the nomination or even the general.
I thought it was a joke. Just another day of Trump Self-Promotion Universe.
