Democrats have to win two wars at once. They have to win the election. And they have to win the war to establish the narrative that the election victory was legitimate. If Republican state legislators are living in a world where their base has gone all in on Trump's new Big Lie, they will sell out the country in a heartbeat. This is why what is happening in the Courts now is so important. There has to be severe consequences for those figures who promoted the current Big Lie. Republican officials need to be living in fear of the law.
There have only been positive consequences for promoting the Big Lie, except for maybe Rudy Giuliani, but he could have avoided that easily by not going after Ruby Freeman. If he had stuck to the ambiguous "THEY," he'd be rolling in praise right now, but he just couldn't resist going after the Black poll workers. America's Mayor, everyone.
There's the Fox-Dominion settlement. Peter Navarro is doing time. John Eastman has been disbarred. A few guilty pleas in Georgia. What's the count on the Jan6 verdicts? There are a ton of things still ongoing.
From the DOJ: Approximately 749 federal defendants have had their cases adjudicated and received sentences for their criminal activity on Jan. 6. And they're not done.
I need to take another look at the article on this the Bulwark published last week. I can't remember if they've gotten past the flunky level. It seems like only people without money or clout have been in court, and I know the sentencing has been a mixed bag. I don't know if any judges have accepted the Trump made me do it defense. I have some reading to do!
