30 years ago, I read of an emerging "radical middle." Though it fizzled quickly, it seemed closest to my ideology, more conservative on economics and crime, but not a "bleeding heart for the rich" like most self-described conservatives. Center-left on social issues, but not a "bleeding heart" there either. And anything but moderate, a word I disliked then and now. Since then, I have realized that I am above all "anti-authoritarian." That's what the US needs now more than ever. Whether to the right of Liz Cheney or the left of Bernie Sanders, or somewhere between, candidates need to put their own differences aside and come out swinging against the MAGA cult, its assault on the Republic, and its criminal double-standard on law, responsibility and accountability.
