Andrew, a counter-argument: if Biden had been out of the picture a year or two earlier, a long primary fight would've meant we'd be in a weaker position now than we are. I'm terrified that TFG is going to win, and it's tempting to play "what if?" But I'm 100% w/ JVL on this one: if we lose it'll be b/c nearly half this country is exactly who they've shown themselves to be - not b/c of one "i" we forgot to dot or one "t" we forgot to cross.

Why would the Dem candidate chosen by a primary process be in a weaker position now?

You know how there were things Kamala said, and policy positions she took in 2020 to distinguish herself from the other primary candidates, that MAGAworld is now using against her? Imagine that those things were said just a few months ago instead of four years ago - regardless of which candidate ended up being the nominee.

I know Trump is scary but my god political commentators need to take a breath and step back and realize that this is who we are. I’m gobsmacked that only a few never trumpers realize that Trump is what they want and there is almost nothing Harris or Obama or Clinton of Jesus himself could do to change their minds. How do they not see this?

If Jesus Christ came down on a cloud and damned Trump, his "Christian" followers would stone Jesus.

I'm not religious AT ALL; but I was remarking to a friend yesterday that Jesus would not be allowed anywhere near MAGAworld.

If Jesus tried to give a Sermon on the Mount under a MAGA administration, they would send in the National Guard to put it down.

And JD Vance would say that Jesus only got to be successful in America because his parents made him "trans."

Yeah, that was one of my concerns back then, and that we *before* 10/7. Hard for me to think Democrats having a primary hashing out all their normal stuff *and* that would have resulted in a better result than the one we have now.

Agreed. Biden’s gaff was saying what is true

Regardless, he shouldn't be speaking about the campaign at all. Especially when his speaking often gets him into trouble. His greatest flaw is his hubris. It's made him blind.

In both cases, I want to ask the people apparently so shocked why they thought it was they being talked about. In Hillary's case, she said a third of the Republican voters, and she meant racists, etc. In Biden's, at worst he was referring to people who feel PR is a garbage country, or perhaps laughed at the "joke". In a bit of good news, that joke did not get a great response.

As my sister constantly points out after a career in politics, both as a volunteer and an elected legislator, statistically half of the population is below average in intelligence.

When I taught, I voted in morning, then went to school wearing my Voted sticker. The social studies teacher asked me why I wore it all day. I said, "Well, maybe one or two will go home and remind their parents to vote." He responded," Better they dont vote if they dont know it is election day and what they are voting for."

Technically (and please don't throw something at me!), statistically half the population is below the median level of intelligence, not the average.

That’s why Republicans want to kill public education. It’s way easier to sucker people who can read words but have zero comprehension of what the words mean.

Mean, median, mode - when you have a sample size of 300 million or so, they all start to blend together in the middle! So maybe a hundred million clustered within a few percentage points. I take some comfort in that - we're eerily similar to most of those around us.

Statistically half of the voters are below the median person in intelligence. Not the average.

OK, and in lay terms, what is the difference between the median person and the average as in below average? Are we talking about a difference in semantics, or a signficant, statistical matter?

Yes, it really requires noblesse oblige if you want to only allow the upper end of the intelligence spectrum to vote.
