There is a whole contrarian culture where "alternative" sources automatically have more credibility than "mainstream" sources. Trying to argue with them is like trying to kick water uphill because the lack of evidence IS evidence. They pretend that the guy on YouTube is acting out of altruism and has no financial incentive while the scientific community consensus is being manipulated by "big whatever they are against (pharma, energy, etc...).
I've shut down almost all social media (although my Twitter account is still active for now) for the reasons cited but also because I'm simply not that interesting -- at least not "Twitter-interesting". It is telling that the only time I seem to miss social media is when I feel outrage about something. It's been good to settle the snow globe in my head and I read much more.
"settle the snow globe" a good turn of phrase. And I think *not* being "Twitter-interesting" probably a positive personal asset. How 'bout you just go on and deep six Elon's toy and express your outrage here? Not as big an audience, true. But a much better audience in most any way you can imagine.
