I grew up in a tiny town with an internationally known racetrack in my backyard. Paul Newman used ro race there. My dad was on the board of a group protesting Sunday races. That still holds today. I can still conjure up the sound of those race cars downshifting at certain points on the track. My driver ed teacher was a flagman at the track every summer. When the weekend races are not going on, it’s one of the prettiest little corners of the country. I know all about PITT stops. Love Brad Pitt. Also lover Zimmer’s music. But right now the last thing I need is LOUD entertainment. I’ll give this one a pass.
Did anyone else notice that this was basically Shane but with race cars? Which would be cool if Ford vs. Ferarri didn't exist, because NOBODY can out-Shane James Mangold. Hell, he turned Wolverine into Shane. TWICE.
So, I loved it. But that's not an endorsement UNLESS you see it in a packed theater in IMAX. This will be at best a 3 out of 5 under more normal circumstances, and people at home will probably never get it.
This looks to be the fast fun kind of summer movie we love. Great! Brad and Damson worked for two years to learn to actually drive the fast cars, with stunt drivers doing the more dangerous footage. This looks like something America will love. BTW, where does Brad Pitt get off looking this good at 61? I guess that's why he's a movie star, and we push papers 8-10 hours a day.
It sounds like this movie is just what we need for a summer escape. I'm not a Formula 1 fan either, but ever since I saw a trailer for this in the theater I have been hoping for a couple hours of loud, fast, fun escapism.
Pitt is an actor that surprises me. He is a pretty boy but once you get past that you realize how skilled he is.

Eat that, Kosinski.
