There’s a great discussion of this Russia-Ukraine proposal with Michael Weiss on Timothy Snyder’s Substack, here: https://open.substack.com/pub/snyder/p/oligarchs-and-diplomats-video-with

OH BOY. DJT is really losing it. Why does he think that it is OK to give Putin all he wants from

Zelensky. If all DJT wants is to get PEACE AND ORDER in Ukraine he will realise that what he is doing is so UNFAIR and Wrong....More discussion with all should go on, before any decisions are made!

The first part of any actual peace plan would be to send Vladimir Putin and his team to an international tribunal for a trial on the crime of aggression. That would be followed by that tribunal looking into all credible accusations of war crimes and putting those people on trial.

After that, we can start talking about how Russia disengages and pulls their forces out of Ukrainian territory.

My family is going to be very surprised on Thanksgiving - these recipes are great!

Putin has the Epstein files so Trump has to give up Ukraine and Europe.

This looked like a very bad deal but Zelensky would have to weigh it against the costs of continuing the war until I saw that it contained amnesty for war crimes and I said that Zelensky should not take it.

Gooey butter cake!! (We were able to wrangle 2 parve pumpkin pies due to a benefit for Sharsheret but even a frozen turkey breast had the outrageous price of $62.00 so we will just get whatever meat is in the store on Wednesday)

Brisket is even more outrageous and my one attempt at it was an honorable failure

This is a 2-person Thanksgiving dinner so it will probably involve sweet potatoes and a green something

Misha Firer reports from Moscow that as intolerable as this deal would be for Ukraine, it is still not acceptable to the Kremlin.

This makes sense. Putin cannot accept any resolution that includes security guarantees for Ukraine, unless, perhaps, he can see that they are toothless.

The trick here for Zelenskiy is going to be to play along long enough for it to become clear to Trump (as if it weren't already blindingly obvious) that the party that does not want peace is Russia, not Ukraine. The depressing thing is that we've already been through this once, and the lesson didn't stick.

For years I worked nightshifts through Thanksgiving week. I would prepare, the day before, my bacon wrapped stuffed turkey breast and chill it in the fridge. After coming home from my wednesday night shift, I would go to bed, while my son took over and placed the turkey bacon bomb on the pit to smoke. To this day, we tag team the pit cooking duties.

Perfectly stated. Thank you.

Weirdest Thanksgiving tradition - a bunch of us friends from college moved down to Houston together, and we all had kids at about the same time, and we all spent Thanksgiving together. Several years later, the girls, ranging in age from middle school to high school, starting when the oldest was able to drive, started a tradition for the Friday after Thanksgiving. They would dress up in their absolutely very best, they would spend hours getting glammed up together, and then, together, usually about 6-8 of them, glamorous as only a bunch of teenage girls could be glamorous, would go to Olive Garden for dinner.

I've always wondered what the staff of the Olive Garden made of this...

When you're here, you're family! I love this tradition. We do get Olive Garden breadsticks over Thanksgiving when we visit my dad in Florida as his house is from the Tuscan-themed era and we call it the Olive Garden.

Regarding General Hertling’s column. I 100% agree that Ukraine gets to make the decision with support from Europe and the US. I believe in the idea of taking the Russian assets, billions of dollars and giving it to Ukraine on a regular basis and tell Putin that when he really wants peace, the money will stop flowing to Ukraine! He understands money and losing it may force him to comprise with a plan that Ukraine finds satisfactory!

MTG has ulterior motives? why am i such a chronic doubter/cynic? maybe i’m overdosing on ‘news’.

Maybe she plans to run for another office, Governor perhaps, but stepping down before her term has ended? That’s a lot of power to give up and I think there is more than we know. As we learned from Jan 6 Trump’s followers will do almost anything on his perceived orders. Frankly, I find more of an indicator of how personally disillusioned she may be, first taking away support from people like her own family for healthcare and then the Epstein debacle (which se truly believed in and isn’t it interesting the lengths Trump is going to to hide the files).

If we are honest, everyone of us has put our faith in someone and fallen for some kind of con, some are worse than others

Enjoyed reading through the recipes looking for some inspiration - and hopefully found some!

I can’t comment directly on Hertling’s Ukraine piece, so wanted to say here that I think he has nailed all the reasons we need to support them. Appeasement to Russia is a worst case scenario that seems to be pursued by our current regime. I wish his message had a wider audience beyond The Bulwark.

Now that Hertling, who I love, BTW, is with the Bulwark, shouldn’t we be able to comment on his essays?

Thanks to all of you. I am concerned, however, that Witkoff, Rubio and the rest of the gang could be believed to be honestly doing their best for Ukraine. They are doing their best for Vladimir Putin and leaving our European allies in a precarious position. Ask the Finns as well as the Poles. Ask the Estonians. They have been here before.
