I am always smarter (and, selfishly, more validated in my thoughts and opinions) every time Gen. Hertling starts tapping the keyboard. Thank you for your service, Sir. During active duty... And now.
You mean to tell me there are countries other than the United States that actually matter to the global economy? *<heavy sarcasm>*
Thank you for bringing decades of real-world military and strategic experience to your analysis. It's refreshing to read commentary grounded in expertise instead of political spin.
Trump is profoundly unfit for the presidency, and we're already paying the price. Unfortunately, I suspect the economic and geopolitical costs of this era will continue long after it's over.
Mark, Ever you since you came to the Bulwark, I've received quite the education in these matters, thanks, I needed it. There is one thing that seems plainly obvious to me, when Putin and Xi get together, they toast their good fortune that Trump is doing their hard work of destroying America, and all it costs them are a few fake words of praise.
Have you ever been in a car accident. I was once in one. I have a clear memory of seeing another car running a red light and hitting my car from the passsenger side (we were both on one way streets). I experienced a sense of disbleief finding it difficult to process and accept what my eyes told me. In thinking about the multiple failures of the Trump years I experience the same feeling.
I like the analogy. Interestingly...when I was in a car accident as a passenger at like age 15 or something where a car didn't stop as anticipated and collided with us. For months afterwards, my mind wouldn't trust that cars were going to stop when they were supposed to.
So...now...any time the Trump administration does and/or says something...I think they're lying, being nefarious or covering something up...or all of the above.
Thank you, Sir for your explanation. What a mess this administration has made of international relations! Hopefully with a new administration we can recover
It's such a pleasure to read Gen Hertling's posts. It's a unique perspective that really gets to the core of what's happening within the chaos of America's administration during the past 2 decades. Thank you. I always finish reading and think, "Ok: but now what?"
I am worried that our continuous depletion of arms with this wasteful bombing of Iran may encourage China to either pressure or invade Taiwan. China can sit back and watch us dissipate our strategic advantage. They must really be enjoying this.

Decades from now historians will look at a much diminished USA and note that they did it to themselves.

Why not just admit it? Trump is a Russian asset as is Farage who if he gets into number 10, will also withdraw British troops from Europe.
Russia invested money and effort in Trump and Farage (and others like them), Definitely a good investment.
Though in truth Russia would be a lot more prosperous if it abandoned imperial ways and joined the west,
As always, General Hertling offers invaluable insights and reason that inform and enlighten. He is most definitely a Bulwark asset.
Excellent. China keeps playing chess while Trump plays checkers. Restacking.
