Please keep telling these stories. I hopeful that one day my cousin in TX will finally see/hear what’s happening, and finally decide to stop making excuses for BP and ICE terrible behavior.

The randomness adds to the fear. We have been preparing in the bay area; we do not know when the on again off again threats will manifest with increased volume. But in the meantime, there is lower level ICE and CBP activity every day. We watch for SUVs with tinted glass and no license plates because they learned that we learned their license plate numbers. We do double-takes when we see local ROTC and heart rates drop when you realize it's our local kids who want to serve and protect and not thugs ready to smash windows.

Wonder how Militant Miller is doing on his daily quota? I would appreciate seeing his chart with the names of the: rapists , killers, assorted scum that he is looking for. Per our President, that is who he wants to deport. I think there is some excess unlawful activity going on here.

Of course we must understand that anyone who enters the US outside of the legal channels is technically a criminal. But as I understand, the illegality is on the same level of a traffic ticket. So it seems to me, that Mr Piggy has deliberately over stated his case. Imagine that, so unlike Mr Piggy to engage in a little “puffery”

And so we allow this unholy alliance of “true patriots”and thugs to turn America into a third world banana republic. Well done Mr Piggy. I do pray that we will all witness your repudiation for your illegal, immoral and inhumane movement. Looks like your private prison CEO’s can look forward to a bumper crop of bums.

Not enough is being said about the Supreme Court’s infamous decision allowing ICE and CBP to use racial profiling. The impact is not only felt in immigrant communities, but by anyone whose appearance may cause suspicion.

This is one of the most egregious, un-American SCOTUS decisions of my lifetime. I suspect that it will be mentioned in the history books alongside Dred Scott and Japanese-American internment.

Completely agree. I'm out of sympathy for the "low education" voters that voted for Trump in 2024 knowing he tried to steal the 2020 election because the price of eggs and gas was too high, and now have buyer's remorse because the leopard ate their faces. FAFO uber alles!

Thank you for this post, AC. I do what I can 29 days from turning 90, but it's reassuring to hear of the grassroot responses in NC. Most of what I can do besides getting myself to No Kings is devouring Substack and sharing supporting comments with pertinence and an occasional bitch; I never expected to have to be doing this, but I'd support my parents who immigrated here from the Netherlands and France more than a century ago, who passed on their endorsement of America's liberal democratic experiment to their sons. I appeared on the scene in 1936. My father successfully challenged me to memorize the Gettysburg address just before I hit double figures. I ended up spending a lifetime of public advocacy of one sort or another.

Well, I don't know what happened but the application I was relying on to give me information on ice sightings that I could share with a network of neighbors has been silent as we are being hit hard in Long Beach. I texted a friend to let him know I wasn't a reliable source of information any more and he called me back from Tijuana. He had been deported this past Tuesday, the 18th. He had been here over 40 years and had a successful business as a house painter, specializing in historic homes with wood siding. He ran a crew of about 5 guys. He put one daughter through university and has another who just graduated high school in June with an athletic scholarship. I am heartbroken for his wife and daughters and for us, his community. A good 25% of the homeowners in the neighborhood are almost certainly undocumented - they have built lives and strong businesses, they are intelligent and hard working. My neighborhood is at risk from criminals and squatters if the good hardworking people who are the backbone of our community are ripped out of their homes.

Trump did tap in to the right's obsession with immigration. But, as is with human nature, he thought, "Well, if some is good, more is better, right?" NOT! Immigration is suddenly turning from his "go to" to his "Uh oh".

Beautiful writing. You portray both the evil and the beautiful humans who are fighting against it. I especially appreciated the pastor's comments at the end.

Thank you for your in depth post here. I am writing from Canada where we have our own share of problems (compounded now by the trade difficulties created by Trump’s regime that are affecting our economy), but it is inconceivable to me what is happening in the US. It’s like watching a dreadful horror movie unfold, and yet, it’s affecting REAL people and their lives. The courage shown by the people of North Carolina that you write about is remarkable and inspiring. Let’s hope the increasing push back from everyday Americans builds until their voices cannot be ignored by Congress and the Senate and so forces the representatives to act to combat the regime. Thank you for keeping us informed. Stay safe….
