You guys ARE going to go current and do One Battle After Another, aren't you? I've listened to several critic reviews and none of them are scratching the itch -- I realized that I needed the Bulwark take!
Loved the discussion of All the Presidents Men. What do you think of viewing Civil War at some point, especially after the recent Hegseth/Trump meeting with generals?
Recommending the German film The Lives of Others -- a virtually perfect film about the Staci in the mid-80s. It's useful for Americans to wrap their heads around surveillance before it's too late. 😊 Plus, a great, great movie.
Since I don't think my previous suggestion of a movie for the club - Boyhood, an appreciation of life film, will get much traction - it's not political- I'll make another suggestion. Evita, which I recently watched for the first time (on Hulu). In the particulars not too similar to our current moment, but in general it rings familiar bells, very loudly. And, it moves fast.
Perhaps this movie suggestion is too obvious, but why not the 1987 film by Cheech Marin, "Born in East LA"? Invite him to join you (and maybe add Adrian as well) in a discussion about how immigration enforcement has changed since then.
Absolutely brilliant story of the only journalist, Gareth Jones, who reported on Stalin's deliberate starvation of 4 million people in Ukraine over the winter of 1932-33 — the Holodomor. Jones engages in daring subterfuge to get the story. His account is published at great risk (this is Stalin, remember? Do not drink the tea!). The movie is an edge-of-seat, "I can't believe this really happened" thriller from 2019 that did not get the attention it deserved. (86% on Rotten Tomatoes.)
Bring back the Movie Club! It's been a minute since you taped one and they are delightful.

Watched V for Vendetta for the first time. It hits a bit close to home regarding what we are living through. I encourage a first watch or re watch.
Thanks for the Movie Club episodes.

FYI Sonny. The plural of “Cletus” is “Cleti.”
Mr Jones.

I talked to the writer of that movie on BGTH back in 2022! I can’t find it in our archives for some reason but the pod is here: https://audioboom.com/posts/8352222-a-crucial-film-to-understand-ukraine-s-struggle
Cool. Thanks, I'll take a listen.
When is the movie club on YouTube? I want to watch live.
