No worries on the mid-term elections, as soon as Elon's DOGE bruhs 'fix the problems' with vote counting there will be no need to worry about the result - Republicrat sweep, anyone?
David Hogg? Yeah, he's on my radar. The DNC right now is full of smug chickenshits who just want to go along to get along. They've demonstrated and repeatedly stated their worthlessness. Are they the instrument through which we can win back our country? Not a chance.
I saw in the email newsletter the gang is coming to Nashville in May!! I'm so excited! It's so isolating living in rural Tennessee surrounded by Trump supporters. This community has been such a help since election day and I'm really looking forward to a live gathering. Also hoping for a bit of Bad JVL 😂
There are more protests in every state planned on Saturday by the 50501 Movement. It's the same people that planned the Hands Off protest. Get the word out!
Everything is Fake News if a bloated mango bellows it into a microphone, or so we have allowed. I'm sorry about your son, but he's going to have to pick a side pretty soon. If the images from two Saturdays ago are discounted because they're 'fake news', then that is going to be a short conversation.
"While the Hatch Act prohibits federal employees from running in partisan elections, the DOGE firings have created a large, energized new pool of candidates for Democrats to recruit from."
The Hatch Act still applies? After Kellyanne was hawking Ivanka merch as a White House spokesperson and Trump held campaign events and a Tesla infomercial on the White House lawn?
Having ex government workers running for office is a great idea, and there will be some good candidates that will come from that pool just as there will be bad ones. They will have good stories to tell about what happened to them, why they worked where they worked and how that work helped their local communities. And all that is what worries me because of what else you had in the article.
These people who are fired up to run for offices from their local towns to state reps, seem to want to continue their work as public servants. Then we see you list the names of Democrat strategists, pundits, messaging experts, etc. The exact perfect way to stuff up a grassroots candidate is to get those strategists, pundits, messaging experts, etc. involved lol. Why are the Democrats World Champions at shooting themselves in the foot, and FFS why do they fight so hard to keep the title? Surely that's a trophy they don't want to hold onto anymore, especially with MAGA trying their hardest to take that trophy off them.
Most federal workers are not politicians. They work at being good at their jobs in whatever department they work at. Not being politicians means they probably talk like normal human beings. Funny thing about voters these days in democracies across the world, is we are sick of professional politicians. We want people who think like us, talk like us and are willing to call shit out when it's shit, admit they screwed up when they screw up and completely stay away from the people who test every word of a statement in 20 different panels of people before giving the go ahead for the words to be spoken lol.
I'm happy there are groups wanting to help these people with information about how to get started with campaigns. All the nuts and bolts about running for office is good knowledge for these people to get their runs off the ground. The most important thing is to let them be real people with real stories running for office. No tweaking of messaging, no massaging of facts for their stories. Let them be honest and truthful about who they are and what they are about, because THAT is what voters want - authenticity. At least that is what people I talk to want who are sick and tired of politicians (which is most people, including my wife lol).
Are Democrats going to be for more debt? With the Trump administration changing the economy, the debt is getting even more expensive. Democrats usually help people by creating expensive programs. They seemed to have gone silent on immigration too, though there's an opening to create legal pathways to counter the deportations vacating jobs. Could the Democrats please move past their standard shtick of saying Look at us, we're so important, and actually do something of substance, selflessly? It's great to have new candidates, but if the party still doesn't know what it's doing or what it stands for, they will be of limited value.
It seems the myth that Repubs are good for the economy and Dems are bad will never die. I encourage you to research the facts. Yes, the debt is out of control and hugely concerning. But do you know e.g., who last achieved a balanced budget? Clinton. And it wasn't a Dem who "unbalanced" it. The actual historical numbers might surprise you.
I am well aware that historically Democrats have been better with our financial situation than Republicans, almost always. Republicans blow up the debt pretty consistently. But that was the past and this is the present, and Biden's unrestrained spending contributed to our present precarious financial position. I suggest the Democrats channel their inner Bill Clinton and rise to the present challenge.
Your points are well made. Here's how it looks to me: people 'running for something' doesn't necessarily mean '...as a DEMOCRAT with all the historical bullshit attached.' I am looking at the rise of very pissed off Center-Left/Center-Right independents. The hilarity of it all is that the concept is no longer an oxymoron.
What the Democrats say now is irrelevant, they are dead to us. The list of what's to be done is straightforward. Eject Trump. Stop and reverse DOGE. Return judicial power to the courts. Return legislative and tariff power to Congress.
Can that change come from the Democratic Party in Congress? No, they surrendered a while back. It's easy for the 'smart' people to opine that powering this through from the bottom up is just impossible because reasons. What they don't get is that bottom-up is the ONLY path to getting our country back.
Education, abortion rights, seats in the House, the electoral college, jobs, the raw visuals of tens of thousands of very angry citizens, the very roots of party politics. All local.
Local's where it's at. That shift has already begun. The rickety Jenga tower of the national parties is and always has been a Rube Goldberg compromise machine, it has no actual meaning by itself. It's time that we all tell it to fuck itself sideways.
Unfortunately for all we independents, the Democratic party is the only other political vehicle. Third party is still a pipe dream. The Democrats’ biggest strength in recent years was being Not Trump. However, that failed them in the last election. Now they need to see if they have the moral fiber and innate intelligence to hatch themselves a leader with vision and understanding.. So far it's not looking good. Pushback is fine. It's just not sufficient reason to have a political party. In the past, Democrats helped people. It was valuable but costly. We can no longer bear the cost, our financial situation is dire, so that takes a main plank from under the Democrats. Bernie is complaining about the rich again, but this time on the eve of a global financial collapse. His timing is bad. Perhaps the Democrats can find a way to not let their hearts interfere with their heads, but so far, I've seen no sign of it.
Trying to be 'smart' and 'strategic' has been used as an excuse for doing nothing. "Timing", critiques of corrupt vote-buying through largesse, all those discussions have been swept away by a jack-booted fascist regime. You can say throwing sand in the gears of the fascist machine is strategic. Or not. It doesn't matter what you call it, it's the thing we can do. Having a political party is not a goal. It's merely a tool. The tool we have is broken, the way it's used has been corrupted, we need to rethink... better yet, re-act... how we even relate to our politics. Because it's OUR politics, even though professional politicians want us to believe that they are the wizards to which we supplicate. They're tools, and frequently dull ones. They're the ones who want us to believe that the only alternative to the Holy Two-Party System is a Third Party and, *ha ha*, is ridiculous on its face. Maybe we ignore what they're saying because that's not where we're going at all.
If a 'party' wants to coalesce around a movement whereby citizens are reclaiming the country and how they want it to be, that's fine. Politicians and parties, being largely useless baggage, have a long tradition of sprinting to get to the head of a parade. They follow us. But expecting to take what's completely failed us and reconstruct what we want from the wreckage is like shooting pool with a rope.
“Having a political party is not a goal. It's a tool.” I like that. You expressed it well. That is its fundamental purpose out of which socializing or expressing yourself as an individual comes. And I apologize for forgetting to address your point about working locally. I completely agree there. In fact, I believe it starts with neighborliness and developing community relationships around you, not necessarily political ones, but human ones.
The women were supposed to save us the last go round and democrats are notoriously lazy voters. I’m not going to count on thousands of wrongly fired people to save us either. I just changed my voter registration to democrat because I don’t believe there is a republican alive that I could vote for. This may be the group that votes in the next election. Start tracking that.
Bad women! No biscuit! The reason Hillary didn't win was because she didn't work hard enough to call us lazy dumbasses. I think you should run for office, you seem to have the right stuff.
Seven years ago, I was the only person I knew saying that if T ever got back in the WH we'd not have free and fair elections as long as he was alive. Even after Nov. 5, people in my circle told me that was crazy, Americans would never stand for it. In just the last few weeks, I've seen an explosion in the number of people expressing concerns about future elections - thank goodness.
I don't think it's 100% guaranteed we won't have mostly legit midterms; but I also don't think it's guaranteed that we will. What I want people to realize is that it's a VERY REAL POSSIBILITY that we won't - so that hopefully we'll start doing something about it.
Agree. I think there is value in saying it openly - more important if high profile public figures do it than us random citizens, but we might give a “permission structure” for them to address it publicly. It feels to me like pulling back the curtain of subterfuge helps to delegitimize their schemes just by exposure. Daylight, the great disinfectant. And maybe they’ll just have to “prove the libs wrong!” by not doing bad things.
You're right. I guess we'll just skip the middle steps and go straight to riots in the streets and being slaughtered by our own military. That would certainly meet your standards for intellectual honesty.
I like odd. It keeps the brain juices from turning to sludge.
I'm agreeing with you. I'm just extrapolating out the full implications for what you're saying. No midterms? Ok, probably just going to be another Wednesday, except this time with National Guard units pre-po'ed in every major city and hamlet in the land. Poised. The good and wise citizens of the nation will certainly drive placidly past the checkpoints to go to work as always. As they do today.
Many degrees of freedom to this right now. I'm certainly not smart enough to forecast where it all will actually go.
I probably sacrificed meaning in favor of brevity. Further on in this thread I wrote a hopefully better explanation. If we “pull back the curtain” on a scheme, it seems like there’s a better chance of derailing it. So far a lot of the shock we are experiencing was because of a failure of imagination of how far and fast they would go in their corruption. Also, they have a childish desire to “prove you wrong” by doing the opposite. If we accuse them of a plan to mess with the election, they might decide not to just so they can crow about our paranoia. That’s a long shot, but I still think it’s better to be loud about the prospect rather than crying foul after it happens.
States run the elections, and I'm sure there will be midterm elections. However, some Trumpy candidates who lose will undoubtedly try the North Carolina sore loser method of trying to selectively disqualify Democratic voters before and after the election. If Dems win by large enough margins, they should prevail. The big question is whether Trump will allow another presidential election in 2028, since he isn't allowed to run (according to that old document called the Constitution he's never read and has been ignoring for the past 8 years). I'm sure he will consider declaring a national emergency and "temporarily" canceling the election.
States run elections . . . For now. The old laws no longer apply. We need to remove our blinders. Failure of imagination is part of how we ended up in a dictatorship. I can easily imagine Trump declaring a state of emergency. He’s already setting in motion burdensome rules for voter ID, and planning to eliminate vote-by-mail which my state has been using for over 20 years.
Your concerns are very valid. However, if enough (millions of) Americans protest and continue to call their members of Congress frequently, I believe this will encourage judges and some non-MAGA Republicans to begin to resist some of the Trump actions that are harming our economy, causing inflation, destroying our alliances and security, and generally displaying gross incompetence, since all of his cabinet officers and other appointees have been picked only for loyalty, not competence. I suspect the ultra-rich Republican donors who are, to a large extent, the power behind the throne, are getting disillusioned by Trumpian incompetence and financial and economic destruction, and reduce his ability to end elections in blue and purple states, at least, which should still allow Democrats to regain control of the House after the 2026 elections. That will make it even harder for Trump and MAGA to completely rig or cancel the 2028 elections. That's my hope, anyway.
That is my hope as well. My point in raising the alarm about election tampering is a faint hope that exposing it ahead of time will help expose and derail any scheme, instead of being caught flat-footed after the fact. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure; forewarned is forearmed, etc.
I do not see a big payoff for the Dems despite the dumb decisions coming out of the White House. The Democrats are a beleaguered entity. Big mouths like Bernie Sanders, AOC, and the ugly lady from Detroit whose name escapes me at the moment appear to be the face of the party and they are turning away Democratic voters by the ton. No Democrat stands up and criticizes their unAmerican views because they are being lead by a milquetoast. No I just think I’ll sit this one out. Perhaps in the future a statesman will arise in either party that I can respect and vote for.
Lol, I don't know whether to laugh at your trolling attempt (if that's what this post was), or feel sorry for you not being able to afford your medication. If you were actually being serious then I guess you missed the numbers that are turning out to the Bernie + AOC rallies. To give you the benefit of the doubt, please list by number the supposed unAmerican views they are guilty of?
I've seen no calls for kidnapping and relocating immigrants to foreign gulags without due process by Bernie or AOC. Actually I guess we should add kidnapping and relocating American citizens to foreign gulags now that Trump has announced his plans. I'm Australian but I'm pretty sure kidnapping and forced relocation are not within the bounds of your Constitutional republic, or what used to be your Constitutional Republic. But I digress, I look forward to your list of unAmerican views espoused by Bernie & AOC.
I love this news.
No worries on the mid-term elections, as soon as Elon's DOGE bruhs 'fix the problems' with vote counting there will be no need to worry about the result - Republicrat sweep, anyone?

Where is the outcry from those who have been dismissed by the Trump Doge Disaster? My son is beginning to think it’s Fake News!
Everything is Fake News if a bloated mango bellows it into a microphone, or so we have allowed. I'm sorry about your son, but he's going to have to pick a side pretty soon. If the images from two Saturdays ago are discounted because they're 'fake news', then that is going to be a short conversation.
He needs to understand we are in a media blackout. Who in their right mind is totally excited by being laid off? He needs some common sense.
Jesus, I don’t understand the draw to Smith. The guy may be confrontational, but he has zero charisma.
Having fired federal workers run for obvious can really be a boon to the pro-democracy movement. They will bring the personal touch to the struggle.

"Constituent" service - that rolls off the tongue, lol. Still sounding like Democrats! How about work that makes a difference in people's lives?
And specifically what the person running did for Americans while in that government job.
FYI. David Hogg is a true rock star. Trust in him will be worth our collective pride.
The women were supposed to save us the last go round and democrats are notoriously lazy voters. I’m not going to count on thousands of wrongly fired people to save us either. Midterms. Not going to happen. Why is it so hard for people to absorb this? We are walking right into disaster in full denial. Again.
Seven years ago, I was the only person I knew saying that if T ever got back in the WH we'd not have free and fair elections as long as he was alive. Love that.

No arguments.
Are you suggesting that we surrender to our destiny? I refuse to believe that this crypto-fascist bullshit is our inevitable future.
I didn’t say that.
The eternally hopeful American electorate........"that can't happen here" standing in the middle of it happening.
Decades of denial led us here.
As JVL always says, "Good luck America"
