I get wanting to be safe and certainly I wouldn’t mess with a dangerous guard dog if executing a warrant or arrest but you gotta think that cops that are accustomed to working with dogs would be able to not have to kill a dog it deemed unsafe unless it was absolutely necessary. I just couldn't believe Kraft's indifference to the optics of being seen with Trump, Sarah. For me, it's a stain that won't wash out for a long, long time, if at all.
It's also true, however, that I haven't enjoyed the NFL as much this year as I have past years. It may have something to do with all the gambling ads I see on any given Sunday.
I am so disgusted by the gambling ads, but even more by the constant updating of odds. Watching baseball it's even more intrusive with percentages shifting by the pitch. Just as all the alcohol advertising is rough on people with substance use issues, the ubiquity of gambling now is devastating for those with gambling issues.
As a recovering compulsive gambler (over 2 1/2 years clean!), I agree completely. The access to all types gambling in this country is out of control. I attend Gamblers Anonymous meetings online daily, and the people coming into the rooms are getting younger and younger- already massively in debt before they’ve even really started living. It’s a real problem that needs to be addressed.
Congratulations, Shannon. I'm an addictions counselor and frankly, gambling is overly ignored compared to its substance use cousins and in many ways vastly more complicated to sustain recovery. So ... keep on keeping on and believe you are worth it.
Congratulations on your time. One day at a time. It’s a brutal addiction- grateful to be out of the craziness of it and don’t ever plan on going back. ✌️
Sure, but for those who are working on creating recovery and making change in their lives the unavoidable advertising and the easy access to gamble is a lot more pronounced than someone having to fight urge to go to a casino.
I didn't think it would matter much but I was wrong about sports gambling, I mean like the Cleveland pitcher intentionally throwing wild pitches ? No way that was coincidence.
What worries me is the societal cost of online gambling. We already know that young men are not doing as well as young men from past generations did. Today's crop of young men aren't getting laid, they're not obtaining educational or financial success, and they're more likely to die deaths of despair. So when I see a bunch of ads for online gambling with fancy graphics and former athletes whoring themselves out (including Tom Brady), it makes me pretty angry because they're appealing to young men who probably feel they've got nothing left to lose. Before they know it, they're hooked and in way over their heads. And I believe the NFL as an entity doesn't give a fuck about any of this.
Thank you, Tim. I couldn't agree more. It's way more than money, money, money. It's lives. They are indeed "appealing to young men who probably feel they've got nothing left to lose." It's like the opioid crisis.
Didn't we the people have to vote for sports betting. I remember voting for it ony because every state around us had it too. Each state around Maryland approved sports betting at a different time.
It took years of ballot initiatives in OH to get limited casino gambling. They barely got that up and running when they began adding stuff that was NEVER voted on. I'm sure nobody voted for this dangerous crap.
The other thing that pisses me off is how the broadcast announcers and analysts verbally fellate him. To wit: "He was a season ticket holder, then he bought the team in 1994 and has won six Super Bowls". And I think, "OK, true, but he's also hanging out with an insurrectionist, adjudicated rapist and convicted felon, so I don't really care about his accomplishments when his judgment is so bad."
I witnessed that fellatio too watching the game yesterday. I had had zero intention of watching SB60 this year but ended up watching all of it (okay, up to the two minute warning in the 4th; it was over by then.) During the commentators on air bj, the camera focused on Kraft in his guest box flanked by two young folk, he was yawning widely at that moment - bored, I guess. Commentators stated that Kraft had attended all the Super Bowl competitions in which the Patriots played, (like, 'duh') dating back to 1994. In my admittedly twisted thought process I made a mental Fanduel bet with myself that THIS Super Bowl will be the very last one he attends. (And it will be the very last one that the orange turd watches, too; oh wait, it was just the halftime show he watched to feed his personal grievance against all brown folks.) And that Kraft's team really did get their asses handed to them by the Seahawks is really, truly sweet. I bet the old guy had to stop off at his favorite "massage parlor" after the game for some oral relief - and to support local sex trafficking of girls, (as many people are saying.)
Also, recently both Tommy Brady and Kraft publicly expressed their rage that Bill Belicheat wasn't inducted into the Head Coach Hall of Fame on his first eligibility for the honor. Well ... waaa waaa. It was reported that numerous voters stated that the video cheating scam committed by Belichick was the defining reason why he was rejected his first time up. Karma sucks, Bill.
What an accomplishment for the Seahawks and their young head coach Mike Macdonald. Congratulations, Hawks!
Seriously, a clunker? You obviously weren’t paying attention to the back and forth of play and the classy players, like our MVP. Bill, are you a secret Pat—or just an AFC snob? Karma came back to haunt the Pats, for Deflategate and Kraft.
I watched the game to the end, and it got a little more interesting in the last eight minutes or so, but Seahawks baby! I was happy my team won. Everything about the halftime show was a slap in the face to maga, and I love that for them (I am not at my best after Trump’s long and vicious non-truth.)
The more cynical part of my nature believes the Patriots won't recover from this in my lifetime. #ETTD is a thing, and Kraft is about to learn that the hard way.
Well...along with #ETTD is sort of the bad karma thing too. Yesterday during the game, one of the Seahawks db's shoved a Pats player on the sideline. Not sure what precipitated it, but it definitely looked bush league and 2 plays later the Pats had their first TD against a Seahawk db.
You made the right choice. The Pats were awful. I have know that Kraft wsd a scumbag for awhile. I'm from CT and went to college in Boston. I am a huge Sox fan and follow the Bruins. I am NOT a Patriots fan.
As a Minnesotan, I can tell you that curling is one of the most popular Olympic sports here. When we're not fighting an authoritarian occupation, we are all out on the lakes and rinks practicing to be Olympians.
I'll never forget, as a kid, watching the 1976 Olympics and seeing the luge competition. As a little kid in northern Wisconsin, we all started going downhill on our sleds feet first after that!
I have relatives in Colorado. Seeing all those mountains with those ski slopes, I think you gotta be fuckin nuts to go down those. By the way, good luck to Mn native Lindsey Vonn in her future endeavors!
Our hills are nothing to what you see on TV or in Colorado. The camera always tends to flatten things out. There is a reason they go 80 miles an hour. Gravity, what a concept! Lindsey Vonn started off on Buck Hill it is a far cry .
That's probably true! Also, when you have tried it and you understand how difficult the precision is, you really have an appreciation for watching people at the top of their game.
It is fun, but *sooo* hard. (And I say that, having tried with a few lessons back when I still was in my 20’s, a year or two before my arthritis became a problem.)
In my first lesson, they started out with just learning to slide the rock with a special sliding handle (I think it was just two broom-heads welded to a padded handle) rather than the broom to keep your balance, and that takes a whole lesson just to keep the rock going down the ice all the way to the house without overshooting — at first, just landing anywhere between the far hogline and the house seemed like a huge achievement.
But then you try it with the broom and it’s even harder — it’s like a little choreography thing of remembering how to adjust when and how, and don’t forget to turn, and don’t forget to let go before you reach the hogline, and now you have to hop up and get out in front of the rock you just threw — whew! And you wouldn’t believe the amount of pressure you need to use on the brooms — the teachers would show how when they’re sweeping, they can hop so their whole weight’s on the broom and they’d just keep sliding.
Just remembering your two feet each did different things (since one was slidy and the other grippy) was super difficult for me.
I did enjoy just throwing the rocks but I could see it would take forever to get to the point where there was much strategy. The idea of ever getting there felt like being told you’d be bowling, but with a different call each time of exactly *which* pins you had to knock down, and where knocking down too many was a total failure.
(I heard when they were developing the rules for doubles curling that one of the alternatives used some places was a “called shot” rule like in billiards where serendipitous results never counted in your favor. I can’t even imagine getting good enough for that, but it’s just table stakes. In fact, on TV I’ve seen teams that miss an intended shot, but get an end-winning result by fluke, *apologize* to the other team.)
Such a great game to watch, though — I miss living where CBC was available.
Down here we play Bocce with ball in one hand and beer in the other. I've imagined that curing (practice, at least) may be enjoyed similarly -- I can hold a broom and a pint at the same time, but the ice-skate part might take some time to figure out.
None of the pro-curling comments so far have tagged the biggest problem with Bill's remarks -- the implicit dissing of Canada there could have come from Trump himself. I got to visit Winnipeg in my teens, and was surprised to discover that there were even more curling surfaces than hockey rinks. Show some respect for the Maple Leaf, eh, hoser!!
And as metaphor goes, the Dems are nowhere near the skill or strategy level of curling, and Bill's prescription of "just don't add funds to the nasty DHS units" is also bringing a curling broom to a gunfight. The Trump regime is illegitimate from top to bottom. Any funds approved for anything will be misused.
The sports metaphor true pro-democracy, anti-MAGA folks should take is the Seahawks' Dark Side defense: don't give them an inch on any kind of play; just shut it all down.
Bill is such a hater. Curling is fun to watch, once you understand (angles and speed and control—like golf, which I fell in love later in life with even if Im not great at it). But then I live across from B.C. Elbows Up! My Canadian sisters and brothers from another mother.
(Don't tell me if this is apocryphal, I treasure it too much...) Lore has it that legendary newsman Sam Donaldson called out to Ronald Reagan as he was leaving a news gaggle:
Donaldson: "Mr. President--recent studies report that half of all men sing in the shower, and the other half masturbate. And do you know what they sing?"
At least The Nuge is a decent guitarist. He doesn't have the stature Clapton, Beck, Page and those guys, but he can play. Kid Rock was reduced to sampling "Werewolves of London" for one of his big hits that was cringe back then.
This hatred of curling from Bill was unexpected. Plenty of Olympic sports don’t make much sense to me, but they exist and I, for one, love the competition in all of them. The American mixed doubles curling team look like a couple of great kids and I hope we see them on the podium next week. That was probably one of the best defensive displays from any time in Super Bowl history. Maye was ONE VOTE away from being crowned NFL MVP this season. In other news, my hapless NY Jets finally managed to draft a Super Bowl winning QB.
Back to politics, isn’t it amazing that given the TP show was going on at the same time, Donny Double Chin was watching Bad Bunny instead.
Curling actually requires a lot of skill, more than most other sports. And Super Bowl XX, when the Chicago Bears, with their 46 defense, defeated the New England Patriots by a a score of 46-10 was even a better defensive display by a team that played in a Super Bowl.
You lucky dog, I’m so jealous! You got to see in person what many still consider the greatest NFL team of all time, the 1985 Chicago Bears “Monsters of the Midway,” cap off their historic season with a blowout win in Super Bowl XX.
Da Bears came out of nowhere this past season and should make it even further next year with the right acquisitions. And Caleb Willams may very well be the best quarterback currently in the NFL under pressure.
But they’re going to have to learn to be more than a 4th quarter team to win a Super Bowl.
Yes, a real swing and a miss from Bill there. Would've been a fascinating aside to trace the origins of "curl" from the ancient Greek korōnis (κορωνίς) meaning "curved," "bent," or "crook-beaked," derived from korōnē ("crow"). This may derive from the curved route flown by crows from Mount Parnassus southeast to Athens, with a sharp turn southwest once over the Attica Peninsula. As Pausanias described in the 2nd century CE...
(sorry, this bit is getting too obscure even for me)
Curling is great! Get outta here with that anti-curling nonsense.
I will agree, Bill, it was hard to get excited over a defensive slug fest at the Superb Owl. My favorite takes from the Halftime Show were that Bad Bunny had more rushing yards than either team at halftime (true) and Bad Bunny got the ball into the endzone before either team (true).
For folks who are culturally tuned to Latin America, the Halftime show was beyond fantastic. Bad Bunny shared the spotlight with la cultura, hell he turned the spotlight from himself directly onto Puerto Rico, and a vision of a more collaborative and peaceful Pan Americanism than the so-called 'Donroe' Doctrine.
We watched the Super Bowl until the end because we live in San Clemente where Sam Darnold grew up. His mom was a teacher at his middle school and he attended our local high school. He didn’t attend one of the local private high schools that recruit athletes and he helped drive the San Clemente HS to the championship. Of course!
Well, here’s some more then! One of his grandfathers was on our school board for several years. (My husband and I both worked in the school district). Sam also attended a local elementary school, so attended our schools K-12, and he has a house locally, not too far from his parents. He is, of course, beloved in the community.
We loved the Bad Bunny show! Didn’t understand a word, but got what was being depicted. Plus the music was awesome. What’s not to love about it? Unless you feel threatened by proclaiming love is stronger than hate.
The staging, costumes, everything was incredible. Bad Bunny breaking through the roof of a house! Wow! Worth watching again and again. Lots of little stuff to see among the BIG!
Honestly, I can’t understand lyrics in half the songs I listen to in English anyway. I am notorious for “changing” the lyrics when I’m singing them. Badly.
There was a song in the middle ages with a line "They killed the Duke of <something> and they laid him on the green".
But the king thought it said "...and the Lady Mondegreen". When corrected, he thought it was hilarious and that that sort of mistake would henceforth be called a Mondegreen.
Do a search for the best Mondegreens. Hilarious.
My current favourite is "Oh, Canada, we stand on cars and freeze!".
i cannot believe the pleasure it gives me... the dance professor, an opportunity to provide some insight. The "linemen" on poles might be a reference to a sacred ritual dance, the voladores. It is currently viewed as a tourist attraction, however, it had great ritual significance and i use it to teach students about the enduring power of dance. This gives me another opportunity. I hope that all of us, our MAGA friends and the rest, acknowledge the deep debt we owe to African and Latin cultures. There is a saying, there is no American culture without African culture -i would add Latin cultures into this mix. Trump and his minions can try as they might to erase history, but dance, music, the arts you can't kill that stuff!. He will NEVER remove this from our shared history. thanks
The poles and linemen made me think of the Puerto Rican power grid that is unstable and that was heavily damaged by a hurricane a few years back. I didn't know about the sacred ritual dance idea. Or maybe it was referring to both.
voladores are in a specific town in mexico. you are correct that this was not in any way a reference to that. it was all about the hurricane and the botched reconstruction afterwards.
As more is discovered and learned about human settlement here the dates of human migration get pushed back and are now vary from 20,000-30,000 years ago. Also, something I just read: dogs were already domesticated companions of humans when they got here, and are thought to have been instrumental in human success in hunting the megafauna of the time.
true! i was referencing what we all call music, dance these days. The tremendous influence that these 2 groups have on what we all think of as "American" should be acknowledged. We are certainly the happy recipients of ALL the groups who have come to these shores. I wish we could see that more clearly.
I confess that when BB momentarily spread wide his arms while flanked by two other dancers on poles with cross-bars, I got a serious flash of crucifixion iconography.
Terrific show, especially (re)claiming the label "American" for the citizens of EVERY SINGLE South, Central, and North American nation.
I recently took an "Introduction to Curling" class. Super fun. Definitely athletic Look at all the kinesiology tape on the curlers' joints! Sweeping is aerobic. Throwing the stone takes a lot of skill. Drop the ski jumping. Is it really a sport if you can win by making your penis bigger?
I would like to suggest to Bill that he try curling. It's one of those sports that's so difficult even the pros only hit their shots about 80% of the time, and yet so accessible that almost anybody can learn to do it well enough to have fun. Here in Canada, I think it's like what bowling leagues used to be: an evening of fun and camaraderie, a great social game. And shockingly strategic, which is the part I like best. People have called it "chess on ice," and it kind of is, if chess were a game where you only had minimal control over where the pieces were going to end up. I'd watch curling all day long over most Olympic sports. I mean, you've seen one luge run, you've seen 'em all (unless somebody wipes out dramatically). Every curling match is different, suspenseful, and engaging.
Also, am I wrong or was Peacock the only way to watch the Olympics between noon and 11:00PM ET yesterday? If true, I think the real scandal was NBC providing Olympics coverage only to paid Peacock subscribers during that time.
I have YouTube TV and have it set up to record all the curling and hockey (the only two sports I care about). It records entire matches, tho not ALL of the curling mixed doubles. It did get all the women's hockey matches.
If you want, say, skiing uninterrupted, tho, I'm not sure if that's possible.
Nope, seen the Pats creamed after Deflategate and Kraft the creep’s cozying up to the Orange one made it a joy to watch. That and we have a classy team of brothers, especially our MVP.
This was 11 years ago ... this was before Trump ... pats have been shit for the past 4 years ... conpletely new cosch & QB ... i think it's time to let it go ...
Up here in Duluth, MN, the signs for the mixed doubles curling team (based out of our local curling club) are almost as numerous as the anti-ICE signs. You couldn't go into a business last week without seeing when Cory and Korey were going to be on TV.
Maybe Bill should find a curling club and give it a try when the crew is in MN.
Bad Bunny killed it with that halftime show! The camera angle and sequence was even better than Usher two years ago.
ICE stayed away from the Super Bowl halftime show.
Kristi Noem (I think) stayed away from the Puppy Bowl.
And only the most whiny aggrieved people watched the Kid Rock concert.
It was a great 15 minutes for America.
"Kristi Noem (I think) stayed away from the Puppy Bowl." This broke me. Congratulations on winning the internet today, good sir.
You are right on Rajeev, America won halftime.
Agree. Apparently t still does not know Puerto Rico belongs to us. I hate when people refer to JUST the US as America without all the other countries in N and S America. Better: "A part of us".
AND Central!!! :-)
For sure, I didn't mean to forget them. I went to Costa Rica 7 times (and wanted to move there). Have also been to Panama and Guate
Central America is part of North America.
As the Midwest is in reality both West and East.
I credit discovering Sporcle back in 2008 pre/early-smartphone internet access for learning North American geography. Back then I thought there was like 15 North American countries (also thought Aruba was a country not a dutch island) but found out it was 23 and so I memorized them (speed type in a minute on sporcle) into Continental/Central America and islands separate: Canada, USA, Mexico, Belize, Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Jamaica, Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Antigua and Barbuda, St Kitts & Nevis, St Lucia, St Vincent & the Grenadines, Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada. Sporcle was a lifesaver!
Has anyone counted the puppies?
There's one more that was kicked by an ICE agent. A little guy that the thug just sent flying with his boot. https://wreg.com/news/video-u-s-marshal-kicks-dog-in-memphis/
(Sorry, should have read further down the thread. It's already been mentioned.)

Well since Alex Pretti died because of a lawful firearm don’t think Kid Rock can shoot a gun as a protest like a can of Bud Light. Maybe he can shoot a can of Fanta to make sure his life is fulfilled with truly meaningful humane works.
Half the hits for Kid Rock probably came from MAGAt's watching it on every single platform they own.
Definitely. I saw comments on various social media of MAGAts saying they did exactly that to get the numbers up. Losers.
And they still could only get 1/25th the number of viewers Bad Bunny got.
Hell, more people watched the Puppy Bowl than Kid Rock.
Half the hits for Kid Rock were probably bots.
The proper name was the Great Grandpa Rock concert sponsored by Depends.
Appears the Puppy Bowl athletes are unscathed, but not so much for this little guy who was kicked (!!!) by a US Marshall last week: https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/crime/us-marshal-dog-kick-tennessee-arrest-b2916640.html

The best part…!
Yup! Well put.

They have written dozens of articles on this awful topic

Out in the PNW, we certainly took note of the differences between the team owners. 💙💚
My wife decided to root for the Seahawks JUST BECAUSE Kraft is a Trumper.
Same for me. Born and educated in Boston until age 25. For the last 45 years, I’ve lived in the SF Bay Area. Seahawks are the Niners rival. Happy karma is occasionally a real thing.
That tipped by cheering to the Seahawks too! Yay! Decisive victory both in the game and at halftime!!
Trumpster is an indicator. Whatever he does or says, do the opposite.
And probably in the Epstein files.
An excellent reason ! 🌊
Me too! And I’m a 49ers fan.
Kraft has lots of company……looking at you Tim Cook.
Cook's pathetic.
He got a carve out of China tariffs for Apple , didn't he? I imagine he will have to stoop yet lower before all of this is over.
I imagine you're right, Tom.
At least he embraced Bad Bunny.
For the money, but the stage and message were BIG!!! Thanks Bad Bunny!
Yah he is pathetic. But he least he will change his tune once DJT is gone. But Bozos is all in.
Or as Trumpster says:Tim Apple. Lets not forget Jeff Bozos
Thank you, Joe! One day at a time and lots of service in meetings. 🙏
got some time on you, me - recovering compulsive gambler with
24 years clean time, first four years a real battle. Good for you,
make sure you keep your head up. Years ago, I too saw rather
young ones come and then slip and show up with fibs, some single,
more were young and married males.
Congratulations on your time. One day at a time. It’s a brutal addiction- grateful to be out of the craziness of it and don’t ever plan on going back. ✌️
Congratulations, VJ. Your fight is real, stay the course.
Like there weren't way too many ways before for them to destroy themselves and their families.
Sure, but for those who are working on creating recovery and making change in their lives the unavoidable advertising and the easy access to gamble is a lot more pronounced than someone having to fight urge to go to a casino.
true, a person used to notice it on every convenience store
door bar/handle, at least that went away. now, I have a niece
who is in so deep, age 52, works at the V A, smart woman
she will maybe lose her farm, which she inherited, recently she
began dating a much younger man, a casino hound, one of thos
e late at night solo ones, she is in peril. Eleven credit cards in high use. ( also two sibs in some denial ) I learned so much, went
to Vanguard, Granite Falls, I avoid all persons who think they are
in control, need to stay away from their mountain of denial
I'm on secure ground, no turning back here. Thanks !
I could not agree with you more.
It's lives. They are indeed "appealing to young men who probably feel they've got nothing left to lose." It's like the opioid crisis.
worse than that, twenty to twenty-five % don't WANT to get laid,
they prefer porn, and no, not the porn of the old days.
the women will have to share the few men left, well that also
won't work out too well. I got that from talking to a lot of them, they admit it, said, it's not worth the effort, what a deal ( date, woo, commit)
They are totaling disgusting. I suppose it was our useless Congress who gave them permission. Sigh
He's probably trying to stay in position to get his ring back.
Maybe.
He's a standard issue part of the Epstein Class.
What also pisses me off is having to listen to the constant babbling of Chris Collinsworth. Like nails on a chalkboard!
Ditto, lol! He was blathering about what could win the game for a certain team and the first quarter wasn't over yet.
I can't remember if Al Michaels ever did the play by play for the Super Bowls but I sure do miss him.
And making huge amounts of $. His first wife is rolling in her grave.
We'll never know. I'd like to believe she made her husband pay attention to his better angels, but that could be projection on my part.
It is Putin's ring now. Good luck with that!
Amazing isn't it?! With all the crimes we are seeing concerning sports gambling, it is so readily advertised in every major sport!
The quality of play in the NFL was down this season. Very few really good teams.
Add thr ever expanding amount of commercials plus gambling, and our household watched far fewer NFL games this season.
Seriously, a clunker? You obviously weren’t paying attention to the back and forth of play and the classy players, like our MVP. Bill, are you a secret Pat—or just an AFC snob? Karma came back to haunt the Pats, for Deflategate and Kraft.
I saw the shot of Kraft in the audience, looking sullen, hands stuffed in his pockets. It made me smile :)
I watched the game to the end, and it got a little more interesting in the last eight minutes or so, but Seahawks baby! I was happy my team won. Everything about the halftime show was a slap in the face to maga, and I love that for them (I am not at my best after Trump’s long and vicious non-truth.)
Wasn't he involved in a scandal around young Asian ladies giving "massages" somewhere in Florida a few years back?
If I remember correctly, Kraft was arrested at a massage parlor. I won't get crude and describe it further
That's "massage parlor"
Thanks Mike! I haven't had breakfast yet!
I didn't know that Pamela Jo had gotten a part time gig . 😁🌊
That would be "a rub and a tug", I believe.
Yes, he was.
You bet! Plus plenty of other nefarious shit, just like t.
BINGO!
Wow...that's a really good point.
Yup.
But watch the replay of the Bad Bunny Half Time show. It's streaming on NFL. It's amazing. Let's up the viewership, even if just for spite!
Bob Kraft may be one of the few people I've seen with hands smaller than Trump's. Must be one reason Donald likes hanging out with him.
I'm in Niners country and that's what made it so easy to root for the rival Seahawks.
And the better team won.
I'm not upset that your home team lost either.
GO HAWKS!!!!!
Not sure what precipitated it, but it definitely looked bush league and 2 plays later the Pats had their first TD against a Seahawk db.
trump & Kraft have been friends for 25+ years.
Isn't it ironic? a prostitute soliciter going to see the "Melania" premier.
I'm guessing there's more than a little dirt under Kraft's fingernails and Trump knows what that dirt is.
Bob Kraft is the Jupiter FL handjob guy, yes?
You made the right choice. The Pats were awful. I have know that Kraft wsd a scumbag for awhile. I'm from CT and went to college in Boston. I am a huge Sox fan and follow the Bruins. I am NOT a Patriots fan.
Ditto.
As a Minnesotan, I can tell you that curling is one of the most popular Olympic sports here. When we're not fighting an authoritarian occupation, we are all out on the lakes and rinks practicing to be Olympians.
Curling rocks (no pun intended)! I will die on this hill.
Oh Sarah! First uncomplicated smile of the day. Thank you.
Alternately, on a smooth, flat, well-swept surface.
I'll never forget, as a kid, watching the 1976 Olympics and seeing the luge competition. As a little kid in northern Wisconsin, we all started going downhill on our sleds feet first after that!
Close as we could get to the Olympics!
Cool Runnings really did it for us!
I have relatives in Colorado. Seeing all those mountains with those ski slopes, I think you gotta be fuckin nuts to go down those. By the way, good luck to Mn native Lindsey Vonn in her future endeavors!
I went down ( fast ) a steep hill on skis once, no injuries , but in my defense
i had zero guidance , experience and had the sense to realize a person could
really get hurt. was a little thrilling.
Our hills are nothing to what you see on TV or in Colorado. The camera always tends to flatten things out. There is a reason they go 80 miles an hour. Gravity, what a concept! Lindsey Vonn started off on Buck Hill it is a far cry .
Yeah, I've been to buck hill in my twenties, I was at Welch Village
now, I"ve seen the absarokas, tetons and other rockies, nothing like
Switzerland though. Was there one time, amazing.
That was an indelible memory implanted in my mind when I saw those ski slopes in Co. I thought sheesh!
and Afton too, I forgot. Kimball is for little kids.
I love curling! But I have to admit, it looks like it would be more fun to participate than to watch.
That's probably true! Also, when you have tried it and you understand how difficult the precision is, you really have an appreciation for watching people at the top of their game.
I have never done it, but I still appreciate the precision. And I enjoy watching it. (I’m a native Michigander)
Kristol’s a big ol’ spoilsport. Literally.
I miss CBC too. the game is full of strategy.
Down here we play Bocce with ball in one hand and beer in the other. I've imagined that curing (practice, at least) may be enjoyed similarly -- I can hold a broom and a pint at the same time, but the ice-skate part might take some time to figure out.
i prefer Jarts
Watching the mixed doubles match against Sweden should make anyone a believer.
A masterclass!!!
Best curlers in the world are from MN. The Crooked Pint in Chaska is a great place to watch them while you eat.
It was also mixed doubles! The whole match is done in about the time it takes to get through the opening minute of an NFL game.
It is may understanding that the US mens' team that won gold in curling 8(?) years ago was basically the Duluth Curling Club.
They were pretty bad in the previous games, too, and surprised everyone winning gold. Must have put down the beers. 😀
Duluth has some good local breweries. That's a very commendable sacrifice.
All I know about curling is what I watched on YouTube and that was enough to make it my favorite Olympic sport.
Bill going after curling 🥌 WTF?
Bad Bunny's halftime show was awesome. Wow! But MAGA America decided to watch Kid Rock instead? Seriously? No wonder they make such bad life choices.
Skid Rock. :)
Skid Mark.
Tommy Lee's Sloppy Seconds.
from my experience that performer, kid whatever had one almost sort of
catchy tune in 2001 or 2, nothing creative or popular since then.
A D -lister rocker.
You mean E list…..😉
Perfect 👏👏👏
Just watching that Kid Rock nitwit makes me want to take a shower. I'm thinking you'd want to take a can of Lysol with you to one of his concerts.
For huffing?
"...almost a cleaning? Because you see it gets in the lungs and it does a tremendous number on the lungs. So it would be interesting to check that"

And their bad life choices lead to “Deaths of Despair”, according to a book by that title. But they would never blame themselves.
I keep hearing that at Mar a Lago they watched Bad Bunny…otherwise how could Trump know how bad he was.
Reagan: "No, what?"
Donaldson: "I didn't think so."
Trumps lunacy begs for this treatment.
I saw on X some pics of mar-a-lago and the big screens had Bad Bunny show on them. Not sure if the pics were AI or real but yeah
trump watches at the very least clips of all the things he rants about -- Colbert, Kimmel, etc.
Or he gets the info from Fox.
Cognitive dissonance is what he represents.
A suburban kid pretending to be from the trailer park.
A Michigander who used to fly the Confederate flag at his concerts.
A guy who has proclaimed "Detroit 'til I die!" but lives in Nashville.
He's basically JD Vance's role model.
Mr Rock displaced Ted Nugent as Detroit's most embarrassing export.
I’d forgotten about The Nuge. Dammit.
At least The Nuge is a decent guitarist. He doesn't have the stature Clapton, Beck, Page and those guys, but he can play. Kid Rock was reduced to sampling "Werewolves of London" for one of his big hits that was cringe back then.
The Amboy Dukes were quite good, too. Nuge claimed he never smoked weed, and didn't know "Journey to the Center of the Mind" was about psychedelics. 👌
Kid Rock another run of the mill republican pedophile
NS-NC,
Curling actually requires a lot of skill, more than most other sports. And Super Bowl XX, when the Chicago Bears, with their 46 defense, defeated the New England Patriots by a a score of 46-10 was even a better defensive display by a team that played in a Super Bowl.
Wow, how time flies!
The White House would like to remind you that there is no such thing as "Super Bowl XX", only "XY". Thank you for your attention to this matter.
I was there for that game in New Orleans and loved every second of it.
You lucky dog, I’m so jealous! You got to see in person what many still consider the greatest NFL team of all time, the 1985 Chicago Bears “Monsters of the Midway,” cap off their historic season with a blowout win in Super Bowl XX.
Time for them to win it again!
CLR,
Da Bears came out of nowhere this past season and should make it even further next year with the right acquisitions. And Caleb Willams may very well be the best quarterback currently in the NFL under pressure.
But they’re going to have to learn to be more than a 4th quarter team to win a Super Bowl.
What they need is a defense like the '85 Bears had. The offensive line was much better this year. And I agree that Williams is rapidly improving.
(sorry, this bit is getting too obscure even for me)
That is exactly what Bill should have said.
...thank you, I'll be here for the hardware convention, tip your servers... 🙃
It just needs a quote from sumpinides.
That's right. I know it's a Summer Olympics sport, but that thing where people run around with big ribbons and get a score for it? C'mon. Not a sport.
It's looks cool as a performance but how in the hell do you assign points?
You should watch rhythmic gymnastics more closely. I used to think the same as you. Those young women are amazing.
Yeah. If I paid to see Cirque du Soleil, alright, but the Olympics?
Saw Beatles "Love" Cirque du Solei a couple years ago. What a show!
Yah, six years ago. Then the Vikes let him walk. So I hear ya!
Of course!
I'm a HUGE Seahawk fan and had never heard this story about Sam Darnold. Thanks so much for sharing!
Well, here’s some more then! One of his grandfathers was on our school board for several years. (My husband and I both worked in the school district). Sam also attended a local elementary school, so attended our schools K-12, and he has a house locally, not too far from his parents. He is, of course, beloved in the community.
Oh….that’s awesome. Very heart warming to hear about this. Thanks again for sharing these personal insider stories!
Badly.
I love Brazil ‘66 (still!), don’t speak Portuguese, and still sing along, the same way you do.
“Gladly, the cross-eyed bear” (from “Gladly the Cross I’d bear”)
Classic.
"Revved up like a douche (deuce)/Another runner in the night"
from Blinded by the Light.
Beach Boys
"Since you put me down I've got owls poopin' in my head"
"'Scuse me while I kiss this guy"
Jimi Hendrix
Pearl Jam being the worst in trying to understand the lyrics
Proclaiming love is stronger than hate does not work for Trump or Trumpism.
It was like watching a Broadway show. It was fabulous.

i cannot believe the pleasure it gives me... the dance professor, an opportunity to provide some insight. He will NEVER remove this from our shared history. thanks
A
The poles and linemen made me think of the Puerto Rican power grid that is unstable and that was heavily damaged by a hurricane a few years back. I didn't know about the sacred ritual dance idea. Or maybe it was referring to both.
voladores are in a specific town in mexico. you are correct that this was not in any way a reference to that. it was all about the hurricane and the botched reconstruction afterwards.
You can also add Eastern European to that list. We are ALL immigrants - unless we're Native Americans.
And ICE has even detained American Indians! What a bunch of doorknobs! Like their orange boss.
And if you go back a few millennia, NAIs are also immigrants. :-)
Am I the only one who conjured up an image of the Village People with the worker bees on telephone polls?
Leave it to me to ruin an eloquent post (which I enjoyed very much) with my nonsense. Sorry...
thank you
I recently took an "Introduction to Curling" class. Super fun. Definitely athletic Look at all the kinesiology tape on the curlers' joints! Sweeping is aerobic. Throwing the stone takes a lot of skill. Drop the ski jumping. Is it really a sport if you can win by making your penis bigger?
I haven't tried it yet but it looks like it would be a fun sport to play.
Kinda looks like shuffle board on ice with brooms.
I understanding that "throwing the rock" is much harder than it looks.
Curling is the most important sport at the Winter Olympics. I will die on that hill.
Curling and hockey.
Hockey is a close second, true. :)
Figure skating would like a word.
after the biathalon. shooting and skiing. now that is intense.
I happen to like curling 😂 release the full epstein files.
Do. Not. Diss. Curling! 🥌
Also, am I wrong or was Peacock the only way to watch the Olympics between noon and 11:00PM ET yesterday? If true, I think the real scandal was NBC providing Olympics coverage only to paid Peacock subscribers during that time.
USA network if you have cable.
Guess I missed that.
If you have Xfinity hit your voice remote. There's all day coverage that bounces all around…that they don't seem to advertise at all.
Hard disagree that this was a bad Super Bowl! 💚💙 Congrats Hawks! 💙💚
Nope, seen the Pats creamed after Deflategate and Kraft the creep’s cozying up to the Orange one made it a joy to watch. That and we have a classy team of brothers, especially our MVP.
Why is Deflategate even relevant here?
Tom Brady, suspended for 4 games under Bill Belichick. Sweet karma on both of them for underhanded play. The Twelves knew what they did.
This was 11 years ago ... this was before Trump ... pats have been shit for the past 4 years ... conpletely new cosch & QB ... i think it's time to let it go ...
Sorry, cheating is not what a true athlete or coach does—but they sure followed Trump’s pattern.
It was too bad the coaching staff of the Pat's were dizzy on Duncan's.
Go Hawks!!! It was a great (and entirely expected!) game!
