I will miss you. As a progressive democrat I found many more areas of agreement than I would have ever imagined. You gave hope for the future that the Bulwark will continue. Thank you for lots of hard work over the last many years
I listened to your podcast daily and I'm going to miss you! You made me laugh, yet were so informative. I truly appreciate all that you did, but I hope you enjoy a slower and less opinionated lifestyle. Wishing you all the best!
As a once Reagan conservative, son of a conservatively opinionated, successful small businessman and community leader, I subscribed whole-heartedly to the traditional small government views of Charley and George’s 1980-mid 1990’s world. But then that was before I grew up to perceive a larger picture of interrelated policies and concepts that can’t neatly compress the world into a nicely fitted box.
Life on the earth is so much more complicated and requires a wider aperture to capture the broader view. While George is still stuck in that rut, I found that Charley didn’t allow his conservative preferences get in his way to objectively evaluate his party’s derailment into the abyss of Trumpism, even to the point of even complimenting Democratic policies, such as those of Joe Biden.
I will truly miss your columns and opinions. Will you ever return? (Reminiscent of the old Kingston Trio song of “Charley and the MTA”)
Thank you Charlie for all your wisdom and humor. I will miss you and hope that after some time away, you and others on the Bulwark team will host an open forum where we can discuss all the events that will have unfolded during these crazy times. We will need reminders that "we are not the crazy ones"...
Very sad to see you go Charlie but glad for you to get off the hamster wheel. Maybe the best thing I can say is that I subscribed to the Bulwark after hearing Charlie a number of times on MSNBC and thinking "I have to go check out that place he writes for". Will really miss your informative, and humorous, insights.
Please accept my apologies to using a Charlie Sykes quote to make a point. I greatly respect Charlie and what he has done in the past few years with Bulwark. The quote I have in mind is...
"I’m a conservative who believes in things like freedom and limited government and constitutionalism."
After reading the books "Kochland" and "Democracy in Chains", that quote sounds more Libertarian, all dressed up because Libertarianism is a non-starter in a democratic republic.
When I hear "freedom" spoken by conservatives, I think freedom from any communitarian economic impulse ala Milton Freidman's NY Time article in the early 70s.
When I hear "limited government", I increasingly think "limited democracy" to limit the majority. I'm thinking of actions like gerrymandered districts, voter purges, and the gutting of the voting rights act.
When I hear "constitutionalism" I think of law and order but a law and order where protection of the wealthy and powerful against others is the focus.
Make no mistake, I am a capitalist. Yet my capitalism and my democracy gives equal power to each individual. My capitalism and my democracy recognizes the essential nature of both human capital and financial capital and assures that our system seeks a balance between redistribution of human capital to financial capital and redistribution via tax and government action to assure the health of the community (human capital).
Charlie, I’ll miss you. Thanks for all that you’ve done for the causes of sanity, decency, and normalcy. I don’t want you to go, but you’ve more than earned a break. Fare thee well!
Thanks again, Charlie, for keeping me company as you enlighten me during my runs around Asia. Hope to read and hear more from you in the future--somewhere, anywhere. All my best from Japan, Kyle
Thanks Charlie, the Bulwark Podcast was my (late) initiation into the world of podcasting. In 2 years as a Bulwark subscriber I’ve listened to and subscribed to many other podcasts, but I keep coming back. The Bulwark really is a special place and you’ve been a big part of making it that way. Thank you!

I will miss you. Thank you for voicing the sanity that seems to be lacking currently. Best wishes.

You have kept me sane. Thank you.

Charlie, I'm sad to see you go. Your How the Right Lost Its Mind has been my go-to when discussing the roots of our current situation, loved it!
I am going to miss reading and seeing you daily, but am heartened that you will still be making appearances.
Charlie, it's sad to see you go, but you've left a legacy us few remaining rational actors can cling to with hope. Thanks for that.

Farewell, Charlie. You'll be sorely missed.
Thank you, Charlie. I'll miss you.
