The "Tylenol" epidemiological study from August lacks one of my favorite statistics: NNH (Number Needed to Harm). The data presented don’t make it easy to calculate, either, but I gave it a shot.
Using one of the meta-analyses analyzed in the August study, 640 fetuses would have to be exposed to acetaminophen to cause 1 case of autism-spectrum disorder.
I would like to see the word "science" eliminated from any discussion of RFK et.al. Call it what it is: quackery. And don't simply report that the new advisory board is filled with "vaccine skeptics".
Like RFK they are vaccine-deniers (a good reference to the antisemitism that RFK espouses.
What are the qualifications of these individuals -- one played a doctor and then a researcher in his finished basement next to his bar.
We were all taught the shorthand "scientific theory" in school. How research works in reality is more than just "hypothesis"-experiment-results". A few additions could be illuminating, and immeasurably help us understand the truth of the matter. . Perhaps we remember the idea of "controls": one plant in the dark, the other in the dark, but even that is too esoteric. Explaining that there is an association, sounds too much like a connection, and gives weight to any assertion. In the scientific world, data analysis of results must show significance, derived from a specific calculated statistical formula applied to demonstrate that the conclusion -- that there is causal relationship is valid.
Significant is easy to understand, and valid easily translates into true. A good way to bring to light the legitimacy of the statements made by RFK, HHS, CDC and Trump. When Trump suggested injecting bleach as an antiseptic to COVID, most people understood how wrong this was, but there were calls to the Poison Control Centers across the country after that.
Also, before research is revealed publicly -- even in a peer-reviewed article, those peers now deemed "biased" by Trump -- it must be replicated or repeated by others. I think the public can understand the difference between "10 of 12 dentists recommend" and a valid studies show that this toothpaste...)
RFK's proclamations, are politically expedient (what happened to the vaccine connection with autism?) and uniquely dangerous to us. It must be called out -- in a true and valid "fair and balanced" way -- an effect on all, young and old, ourselves, parents, children, and grandchildren.
An astonishing spectacle....Trump has been very effective about picking off companies, law firms, universities, individuals and others one by one. With healthcare I would love to see a united, relatively broad coalition that could include universities, researchers, scientists, physicians, healthcare companies, insurers, etc. push back against the assault on our health. It would also seem to me that being “objective” about our healthcare should be somewhat nonpartisan (COVID experience notwithstanding) and would appeal to a broad swath of non-MAGA America. HHS actions also seem to negatively affect the “business” side of healthcare bringing non-academics into that same coalition. Haven't heard of this coalition happening, but would seem to be a great opportunity to push back on this craziness.
I'm sorry, but Larry Ellison's Oracle is ready to assume guardianship of the TikTok algorithm from the Chinese Communist Party? The same Oracle that just decapitated CBS? And we can expect no self-dealing, self-enriching algorithming now? Is this the fair exchange we should like in exchange for no more CCP trolling, designed to incite polarization and bitter divisiveness in our public? Really? The Oracle of Delphi would have advised us to steer clear of this bum deal. But of course, we understand why Donald flouted the law here for months: to give his cronies time to divvy up their joint ownership in the new Americanized TikTok. Now we know what the illegal delay was all about. As always: money, money, money. Like the song says.
Yes, as C. Young points out, TWO widows had things to say this last week. (1) Was encouraged that Erika Kirk chose to forgive the killer, instead of taking the blame-and-revenge approach of Pres. T. (2) Admired Navalny's bravery over so many years, in trying to run against Putin, then enduring Putin's gulag prison sentence. The second poisoning (this past week?) was apparently not just lethal, but viciously painful. His widow might try to run against Putin?
Yulia is a brave and courageous woman. She could probably give Putin a run for his corruption obtained piles of money. However, she would be unsafe doing so. Putin kills with impunity. And he doesn't care who watches him do so.
I feel like Trump’s EO designating “antifa” a domestic terrorist organization got totally swallowed up by the circus of the Tylenol/autism press conference (which, fair). The EO is plenty nuts itself, but the White House article justifying it is scary. I can’t say I listen to or read everything, but it seems that the reaction to this is muted and I’m confused by that.
I understand that TV and Social Media “medical research” has confirmed that exposure to the Trump Regime causes brain damage. I also understand there is a treatment: send lots of money and crypto coins to Trump and he will say soothing words to you before he turns you over to Robert Kennedy Junior, or ICE.
Sorry but I am sick of hearing about the supposed grace or humility Erika Kirk showed. If she had either her husband's memorial would not have been turned into a hate speech by dotard and golem. She proudly stands with the bigots and zealots. 'Nuff said.
I’m hoping some of our journalists will ask the hard questions: so, if it is tylenol causing autism, that means vaccines are off the hook. So, can you leave those alone?
I find the Tylenol thing more funny than threatening. Nobody reads the warning labels on OTC medications anyway. The reality is that as the CDC and its arms become unreliable doctors and patients will turn to their own professional associations to follow science based standards of care.
The authority of the CDC will become less important than that of state departments of health which will be great in Blue and purple states--- not so great in places like Florida where I live. Here the state government is trying to officially make policies that will actually thwart doctors ability to deliver science based care to their patients.
A Facebook "friend" whose son is autistic believes that Kennedy has been sent by Jesus to finally stop and perhaps cure the epidemic of autism. My heart weeps for her first because of the burden of care she is carrying--- and she and her husband are great care givers and advocates for their son. And I weep because of the way she is being manipulated by people like Kennedy.
I was a health educator for pregnant women for many years. I will tell you in my experience, pregnant women are paranoid about anything that could remotely cause autism or other defects. Some were afraid to take something like Tylenol even for a high fever. I would need to explain to them that the high fever itself could cause terrible damage or defects to the fetus and could even lead to fetal demise.

Another embarrassing performance.
It would be interesting to see who is filtering money their way, financing their destruction of our health care system.

They have finally figured out the cause of the death of RFK’s brain worm— malnutrition.
Trump is always right. He had 81 vaccinations. It was the last one that made him so stupid. It was just too much liquid.

Cue the Tylenol lawsuits in 3...2...

The vaccines are “too much liquid”? The idiocy - it hurts.
