Hegseth had a brief period in the National Guard and was required to leave the Guard. The reasons are similar to what he is doing as SECDEF - watch https://glennkirschner.substack.com/p/trumps-address-to-our-military-leadership?

Nice that the #1 Domestic Enemy, Donald J Trump with his mob on 6 January 2021 ignores the fact that he was a domestic enemy that day. All should learn why I say this by reading the first 25 pages and page 83 (pardons) of Government's Motion for Immunity Determinations. The best place to find this is on this Clearinghouse page at NY University's School of Law Just Security website -

Like your using SECDEF. Pres Trump always has been wrong about the Department of Defense having been the Department of War; it never was. The Dept of War was established in 1791 and in 1798 at the request of the Secretary of War, the Navy Department was created. From that point until the end of the Department of War in 1947 it only consisted of the United States Army and it never fought a war without the support of the Navy. In 1947, the National Security Act established the Air Force and the remainder of the Dept of War became the Department of the Army. The Army, Navy and Air Force combined then became the National Military Establishment. The National Security Act was amended in 1949 removing the Secretaries of Army, Navy and Air Force from the President's Cabinet, making the Secretary of Defense the Cabinet officer and renaming the National Military Establishment the Department of Defense. Trump's claims with regards to winning wars were also faulty. The United States only won two wars against foreign nations without allies; those were the Mexican War and the Spanish-American War. We could also have very well lost the Revolutionary War if we had not had active French military support. The French Navy in the Battle of the Capes at the mouth of Chesapeake Bay defeated the Royal Navy and prevented the resupply and relief of General Cornwallis from the siege at Yorktown.

Please play Trump at at least 1.5X speed.

At 2x speed Trump's cadence sounds almost normal speed. He was completely unhinged.

Americans don't want wars. Hegseth should be gone. Attacking fishing boats, threatening Denmark or Greenland, are disgusting. I dislike the renaming as well. Name of Dept. of Defense matters. Bill is right - his disdain for history and disdain for what the military is, disdain for women. their plans to get rid of people is terrible, and yes the next 3 years could be very risky and worrisome.

In the oath taken by federal officials, we swear "to support and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic." The domestic enemies the oath refers to are enemies OF THE CONSTITUTION. Donald Trump himself is the greatest domestic enemy the Constitution has ever known, and every federal official, including military officers, is oath-bound to do whatever it takes to thwart his anti-constitutional moves.

Right now I trust the military leadership, they do not want to go after Americans.

I’m surprised I’ve heard so little about this Argentina ‘loan,’ except passing references. Please cover this more thoroughly. Has this already happened?

Every time these days I hear someone refer to the Posse Comitatus Act. All I hear in my head is a line from the 1984 Movie Tank with James Garner. If you haven’t seen the movie find it and watch it. You will know exactly what line I am thinking about.

The War Department did not get relabeled as the Defense Department. It became the Department of the Army.

As bumbling and incorrect as Trump and Hegseth may be, there is strategy behind their unprecedented moves. Did you mention the firing of the JAGs at the end of February? Hegseth said at the time that removals were necessary because he didn’t want any “roadblocks to orders that are given by a commander in chief”. Military.com Feb 24, 2025 by Novelly and Toropin.

Were the two of you (JVL and Bill) sufficiently alarmed over this shameful display for the WHOLE WORLD today? Well ... No. You deserve to be every bit as alarmed and "dark" as JVL is capable and then some. As he said to the question by Bill regarding being sufficiently alarmed by the day's events, "We're gonna find out."

They let him decide what an emergency is. Will they also let him decide what an enemy is?
