As long as there's a yawning gap between the law and reality, Republicans will have fuel for their fire. The way to fix is eliminating that gap and the perception of it as well. If we want to fix the gap with more permissive laws, it seems like a whole lot of people need persuading that immigrants aren't in fact stealing their standard of living. Is there a Dem who is up to it?
When I see it said that 'both sides' need to address the immigration issue - I am consistently seeing NO ONE commenting on the fact that there was a bi-partisian bill, Dems & Rethugs alike coming together, and NO ONE is mentioning that Trump and the GOP KILLED THE BILL. I am sure specifically so they could start an issue such as the LA ICE raids. Dems HAVE been trying to do something; Republicans want something to cause chaos and deportations. PLEASE start discussing this issue.
Trump has suspended the acceptance of asylum claims at the border.
Why aren't we hearing about this? It is a clear violation of the law and international agreements. Is anyone such as the ALCU suing the government about this? I also remember he fired immigration judges who are supposed to be hearing asylum cases.
"Flor" and her father demonstrate the qualities which have long been admired and embraced as reflecting essential American values: hard work, family-oriented, self-sacrifice, and respect for the law. These qualities embody what it means to be a person of good character and a respected citizen. Illegal or not, I would be proud to call them a fellow American. They and others like them deserve the decisive and energetic support of the Democratic Party and thoughtful Americans everywhere.
Has there been any investigative reporting into MAGA Acolytes employing undocumented workers? It wouldn't make life much worse for the undocumented, but it would sure be entertaining if a reporter found a "smoking gun." I would bet a dollar that Mr. Trump has employed undocumented folks at one (at least!) of his properties.
Thank you Adrian, and thank you Ryanne Mena, for giving us a better picture of what really is happening in L.A. than all the media reports and film out there. And for showing us how ridiculous and dangerous are the words and actions of Trump, Hegseth, Bondi and their spokespeople and agents.
In 1966, farmworkers in California marched to Sacramento in what was known as the Delano Peregrinacion--normally a religious pilgrimage but in that case a cross between religion and justice. The concept has been repeated several times since by croups like the UFW. It would be great if processions from all over the state could leave their work in the fields and walk to LA to support their companeros. The Catholic clergy should organize this.
Immigrants are a significant part of the labor force… not just in LA, but across the US. So why isn’t Trump sending troops to Alabama to arrest workers? Why did Republicans vote down a conservative border control bill? While they politically disparage illegal immigrants, they also hire them. They don’t want an effective work permit system because it would create rights for workers.
Dems need to call out Trump’s game. Offer to send troops to Alabama to throw out illegal workers. Publicize what is going on in meat packing plants.
We’ve lived through wars, recessions, civil rights marches, and moments that tested the soul of our nation. Today, we face another such moment — one that demands our wisdom, our courage, and our voices.
🚨 Our military is being used against American citizens on American soil.
Let that sink in. Peaceful protestors — everyday Americans — are being met with force, intimidation, and surveillance. These are not isolated incidents. This is by intentional design.
🔍 Reports confirm that Stephen Miller, top Trump advisor, has called for a recent increase in ICE raids, targeting communities with heavy minority populations. These actions are tearing apart families and leaving children behind in fear. “Collateral damage” is treated like an acceptable consequence.
And under Donald Trump’s leadership, the use of federal agents and military force against peaceful protests has blurred the line between public safety and authoritarian control.
🕊️ But we are not powerless. In fact, we are essential.
As grandparents, elders, and lifelong patriots — we must be the steady hands that guide our families through this storm. Our grandchildren are watching. Let us teach them what real love of country looks like.
Here’s how to stand tall:
✅ Contact your state and federal representatives — tell them we oppose military force against protestors and the inhumane ICE raids.
✅ Support independent media — they are documenting what others won’t.
✅ Talk to your grandchildren and neighbors — share the truth, especially with those misled by propaganda.
✅ Peacefully protest, write, speak out — even from our porches and living rooms.
🗣️ This is our moment for GOOD TROUBLE.
We marched for civil rights. We stood up for women’s rights. We spoke out during Vietnam. Now, we stand for democracy.
🇺🇸 Let us rise once more — not with fear, but with fierce love for our country and the people in it.
In Solidarity,
Clarissa Sr, an American Grandma

It's likely that one of the unintended consequences of these protests is the further erosion of support for the Democratic Party in California. From sanctuary cities to open borders, the party long ago lost its way on immigration and simply doesn't represent positions that are close to those of most voters. The WH is betting that when it comes to immigration the GOP knows the mood of LA and California better than the state's Democratic political leadership. In one unfortunate weekend of burning Waymos and violence, the protestors have given them all the campaign material they'll need to win elections in 2026.
We all want/expect Dem pols and millions of us to strike back....but how? Peaceful protests have done nothing except entertain the sub-human in the Oval. How do we overcome well armed PDs, not to mention the best military in the world? It's also more than likely we'd be up against millions of MAGA's nationwide from city to small towns who wouldn't have a single hesitation in shooting/terrorizing other Americans, particularly brown ones; they've been waiting many yrs for this. There's not been ONE practical suggestion of how this reisistance should play out since T took office and there's a major reason for that; by trying to keep it lawful. But even without that limitation, it would still be a massive challenge. Understandably, no one wants to admit any of this because that would signal the End of Us.
So, if the brainy types can't figure out a successful resistance how do we? I'm beyond frustrated reading stories from educated, politically/legally savvy pundits about the Revolutionary War and how the outnumbered colonies stood up to the British war machine... and similar inspirational stories. Seriously? 250 yrs ago it was musket against musket, man against man not a largely unarmed populace against assault weapons, lasers, drones, tear gas, helicopters and god knows what else they'll drag in. Perhaps some practice for the tanks before the DC Birthday parade? We aren't up against just weapons, we're fighting our own govt that's more than willing to ship us to the edge of nowhere without due process.
We're outnumbered in Congress which is bad enough but more importantly the "checks and balances" of the past will not save us. The entire T admin is weaponized against us and the GOP and it appears SCOTUS has OBVIOUSLY, at this point, shown their dedication to MAWA: Making America White Again. For most, it's not so much loyalty to T as it is loyalty to that cause; just as it is with their voters.

I want to do to Trump and Miller and Trump’s the entire Cabinet and every Replace

If Fox was an authentic news outlet, they’d invite Gavin Newson on, even if just to continuously interrupt him when he gets too close to the truth.
The reporter wasn't caught in a fusillade. No one else was shooting. It was an intentional targeting.

Too bad there are those who believe it's okay as long as they don't get caught. Then, when caught, it's not their fault.

Stephen Miller thanks those carrying Mexican flags at these protests. They are making his case in the best way possible.
