Given that the ruling Wehle opposes allows exceptions for " criminal activity, threats to national security or public safety, and criminal efforts to suppress voting through cyberattacks or foreign attempts to influence elections", I think the ruling is mainly a good thing. I don't want officials deciding what can and cannot be discussed in public on social media sites or anywhere else. I have a feeling that should Biden be replaced by a someone she dislikes, she would agree with me. Also her notion that the social media companies are too big for the government to push around is just wrong. Nobody is that big.

How very Will to present a Non-Deplorable of the Week award!

As usual, too much credit to Pence. Come on, man.

This is what comes of defining deviancy downward: mediocrity starts looking pretty good.

“Republican attorneys general from seven states signed a letter Wednesday to Target, warning clothes and merchandise sold as part of the retail giant’s Pride month campaigns could violate their state’s child protection laws.”- are you FUCKING kidding me?!?

Yes remember when Pence did his duty by testifying to the 1/6 committee about an attack on the capitol where they wanted to hang him? Me neither. I do remember when he did the performative walk out at the football game to protest players free speech rights. He’s a despicable, disgusting Trump enabler and so is anyone who supports him.

It's really GOOD--------no kidding and I also get every thing you write !

Dear Will, This whole newsletter made me smile! I'm not totally sure why; it had lots of stuff citing Trump's shortcomings (which I always enjoy) but it was more than that. You told some very good human stories as well. Pence & Kelly aren't going to change MAGA minds but their ability (along with Zelensky's) to speak Truth to Trump makes ME feel better about the world. Silly me. But thanks for that :)

Mike Pence does not speak truth to Trump. He enabled him. He is a lying coward who helped create this mess. Kelly is the same.

And when he admits with as equal dignity and honesty that he could not and would not vote for t-man in 2024, then he can have a ride on a pony.

Oh Will! Touche to your last word in today's Morning Shot. It was perfect. I'm sure that Charlie appreciated it on the many levels that it worked.

The love for Pence is much like the revisionist history for Reagan and both Bush senior and junior. We are praising people because they are not as bad as Trump. Pence still hedged his statement with comments about aggressive lawsuits and the endorsement of unnecessary voter ID laws. Not only is he not a hero, he is still complicit when he can work it in.

I dislike Pence and would never vote for him. He is not a hero. But he could have done what Trump pressured him to do. It would have caused a Constitutional crisis, if not the end of our democracy. I give him credit for, in this one instance, doing the right thing.

Doing what any sane person would do does not deserve much credit. Now let’s talk about all of the wrong things.

Sometimes bad people do the right thing. That doesn't offset or excuse all of the wrong things they have done. But any time they do the right thing it should be lauded.

We dodged a bullet here. It came so close to going horribly wrong. I don't think most people understand how close it was.

Pence does not get a Gold Star for something that was his duty to do in the first place. There should not have been any discussion about his VP duty in that instance.

That he had to ask others, including Judge Lutig, if he should do what the guy had asked him to do, says volumes to me.

And don’t get me started on all the corruption that he knew the guy committed in the WH and he kept quiet. Had Jack Smith not asked him in to be interviewed, he would not have been forthright.

“I’m going to stand on the Constitution,” said Pence. “And any job I ever have in the future, I promise you, I’ll keep my oath, even when it hurts, like it says in Psalm 15.” A psalm of David.

Lord, who may dwell in your sacred tent?
    Who may live on your holy mountain?

The one whose walk is blameless,
  who does what is righteous,
  who speaks the truth from their heart;

Whose tongue utters no slander,
  who does no wrong to a neighbor,
 and casts no slur on others;

Who despises a vile person
  but honors those who fear the Lord;
who keeps an oath even when it hurts,
 and does not change their mind;

Who lends money to the poor without interest;
  who does not accept a bribe against the innocent.

Whoever does these things
  will never be shaken.”

Interesting Pence chose this psalm. I could write volumes on this Psalm and how it relates to Pence in a negative way, but I won’t.

Re: Mannequin Mike ---

The Hoosier Hero or Spineless Sycophant

Will, you are too much of a mensch in your analysis of this sanctimonious, a-Jesus-tenet Nationalist Christian.

Let me offer an analogy...

Mike's brother, Representative Doofus Pence, says,

"Mike, you can go into the Indiana State Bank and steal all the tellers' cash drawer money."

Mannequin Mike (MM), "I don't think I can do that, Doofus. It's illegal."

Doofus, " No, Mike. The Vice President has the right to all federal currency notes he can get his hands on."

MM, "I should check with Dan Qualye if that is legal "

Doofus, "That loser? He moved to Arizona, gave up his Hoosierdom. There's nothing in the Constitution that says it's illegal."

MM, "Well Doofus, I need to check with a lawyer to determine the legality."

Doofus, "Don't be a pussy. It's for the good of your family."

MM, "I just can't do it Doofus! Mother would be angry with me!"

MORAL:

Mike Pence should not be given any props for not breaking the law!

Anyone with a backbone would have never entertained the idea of not following protocol.

Will, Check the box: MM --- "Spineless Sycophant."

It's in the small print of the Constitution.

If Pence had talked like that from 1/6/2021 forward I'd have cut him a3 break on the prior 4 years. Maybe. This is way late.

Why are all of you Republicans even running for President? Trump goes to a UFC fight and all of you go to get blasted by his constituents in Iowa. That lady quit listening as soon as Pence opened his mouth. Just crown Trump already and let's get this rematch on already.
