I think the last Good Republican just announced his retirement

Why would you "sleep well at night" if Nikki Haley were the nominee? You are saying that you are comforted at the prospect of a person who said she would vote for a convicted criminal over a Democrat, which means she's either a lying liar who lies, or she's a MAGA in disguise. Both are disqualifying. The only Republican nominee who would allow me to "sleep well at night" if he/she were the nominee is John McCain, and unfortunately he's unavailable to run. The GOP is dead, and the prospect of any of the current nominees in the White House is blood chilling.

She has been wrong so many times

Actually I was wrong. A speech writer is staff. When Biden goes.

I agree. In fact that would be terrific. But there still will be the bureaucrats.Wonder how many of them there are who never need to run for office and keep their jobs year after year administration after administration. Our founding fathers never dreamed we would have a group this size that would be this influential. Example: President Biden’s speech writers

It's politicians like this that make me fear for our Republic. If Trump is reelected, it will lead to the dismantling of the US government as we know it. He has made clear his goals. Nikki and her crowd should never be allowed to hold office again.

The only thing I remember about Dan Bolduc is that he was very convinced teachers were putting kitty litter in their classrooms for kids to use. Seems like a great advocate for Nikki.

As a conservative Republican, I am hoping Trump is not our candidate. Also, it’s too soon to pledge for whom I would vote for in 2024. Why would a member of the press ask them such a question except to watch the candidates squirm? Presently I think Trump is too divisive to lead. So is your article. What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? These are my facts. I have personally not yet talked with anyone who is planning to vote for Trump in the next election who did vote for him in 2020. Question: who is pushing these so- called Trump voters in the polls? Perhaps it’s the pollsters. Sharon

Ronna, chair of the GOP, has made all of them pledge to support the nominee. She continues to rig the primary to favor Trump.

I can respect your choice as conservative Republican. Unfortunately too many are perverting the label with personal agendas, which can be said of any large group of particular politically and/or ideologically mindedness. What we really need is a totally apolitical super smart President who can talk to many people at a time not in speech mode. The problem with this is that most people would not see them as such.

Sharon, a few thoughts from New Hampshire. I have received multiple calls about voting in the presidential election. Pretty clearly, most of them are from committees for candidates challenging Trump. Plus, I suspect that pollsters don't want a huge gap for Trump because that makes them and their polls less interesting and valuable. I would also add that I am already starting to see political signs in yards, and they're for Trump. Small sample size of course.

As to your earlier point about divisiveness, the Bulwark trio isn't running for office. Shouldn't we have higher standards of behavior for our presidential candidates than for our political pundits? Even if Trump somehow manages to avoid guilty verdicts in all 91 (!) charges, he is way beyond getting the benefit of the doubt as a candidate (hence a relevant question to candidates who pledged to vote for the nominee).

To answer your question about presidential candidates practicing higher standards than political pundits, my answer is NO. That was the factor that caused the divisiveness in America in the first place. The majority of the people were and still are, desperately searching for the truth. Unfortunately, we can’t find it. Consequently each group goes their own way. Both Trump and Biden have failed. If one of those high quality leaders were looking for shows up, the majority will vote for him or her. Watch for a dark horse. Pence is honorable enough but doesn’t have the necessary charisma and are, sad to say, personality contests.

Insert “elections are “ in last sentence after “say.”

you didn't answer my question. But that's ok. Everybody has a right to view the world through their own lenses. Facts help distinguish reality from opinion. If you have based your opinions on facts, then you ought to be able to cite them. But a whole lot of people have opinions based on what they hear other people say or what they read, when in fact, what they are hearing or reading has no basis in fact, sort of like "the election was stolen." Peace, brother.

First, I totally agree with your first footnote.

Secondly, I watched you, Sarah and Tim on C-SPAN yesterday, and was annoyed with your constant pushing of Joe Biden. You can cite all the statistics you want, but statistics don't vote, people do. And people are not feeling your statistics when they go to the grocery store or the gas pump. And as long as individuals perceive that things are bad, Biden will be in trouble. Perception is reality and all the gross statistics in the world are not going to change that. And, I still refuse to believe that Trump has the Republican nomination locked up as all of you and most in the media do.

I was never interested in professional tennis. If you tell me its outcomes are largely fraudulent and the athletes are pumped full of PEDs...well now it sounds like "professional" wrestling for the well-heeled set and I'm even less interested.

💯 on point #2! But completely disagree with footnote #1. Why would you support a politician who has shown time and again she’s an unscrupulous person, completely without moral compass so long as it leads to power just because she’s ‘not as bad as trump’. Where on that curve does she have to be? There are *no* normies from the before times. A healthy GOP (if it’s viable as a proper party at all) is more likely a generation+ away. To me the test is simple: flipped on trump stance since 2014/15 or supported him while in office? You don’t get my vote. Which pretty much rules out any current R from SC, unfortunately.

Re: Point #2 on the Goalposts...

I am reminded of the classic Simpsons episode, where Ralph Wiggum has a crush on Lisa, and gives her two tickets to see Krusty's Farewell Broadcast....

Bart is insisting Lisa doesn't need to go--Bart will go in her place:

Lisa: YOU? But what if Ralph wants to hold hands?

Bart: I can do that....

Lisa: ...what if he wants to KISS you?

Bart: Lisa--trust me: you don't want to know just how far I'm willing to go, to get tickets to see Krusty's Farewell Show......

My point is? You REALLY don't want to know just how far the GOP folks are willing to go--and still support Trump for a return to the Presidency........
