Do I have this right? The people acting on behalf of a giant "audit" team are instructing the auditees to destroy records?

I commend Andrew Eggers for asking the obvious question that so rarely gets asked of Trump: "What is the point of this, and how does it benefit the American people?" I wish the White House press corps would ask the second part of that question every day, over and over about a host of Trump's actions. Why does extending tax cuts to the wealthiest and thereby exploding our deficit benefit the American people? Why does cutting the SSA workforce dramatically benefit Americans? Why does ending prosecutions under the Corrupt Foreign Practices Act benefit Americans? Inquiring minds would like to know...

Bulwark, I appreciate you. But would you please stop discussing “Canada as the 51st state” so casually, so theoretically, as if it were something that could happen without significant violence against Canadians. If you want to understand why were are so upset right now, why we are feeling betrayed, it is this blithe disregard for what it would ACTUALLY take for the U.S. to take our country. We don’t want to be American.

I applaud Rubio for getting Ukraine to agree (pushing through an open door), but I still think he should resign and run for his former Senate seat as an ex-Trumper. Because Musk.

When Russia rejects the deal, it will be interesting to see how hard Trump leans on him. The correct response will be to send massive aid to Ukraine. Sanctions won't do it.

Run as an ex-Trumper? Have you been watching Rubio since 2016? The man would sell his first born to please The Donald.

TRUMP’S PRINCIPLE MOTIVATION IN ALL THINGS IS MAKE OTHERS SUFFER

Trump's fundamental motivation is to fuck things up for the sake of fucking things up. This is most obviously the case with: tariffs, massive layoffs, reduction in critical services to people like veterans, the destabilization of Europe, the abandonment of Ukraine and deliberately throwing the US economy into a recession. This is the only meaningful explanation for otherwise cruel and bizarre behaviors and dipshit rationalizations.

TRUMP WAS DEEPLY, DEEPLY TRAUMATIZED AS A CHILD BY BOTH HIS MOTHER WHO PHYSICALLY AND EMOTIONALLY ABANDONED HIM AND HIS FATHER WHO REPEATEDLY MENTALLY ABUSED HIM.

THUS, TRUMP CONSTANTLY LIVES WITH THE MENTAL CHAOS AND MADDNESS HE GREW UP WITH. HE ACTS OUT TO BRING ABOUT CHAOS AND MADDNESS IN OTHERS TO GAIN TEMPORARY RELIEF FORM THOSE DEEPLY PAINFUL INTERNAL STATES. THIS WILL NEVER END.

Trump has an infantile personality. He has the 3-year old’s belief that disobeying and being oppositional makes him powerful. It obviously doesn’t since all his actions are reactive and therefore dependent on opposing others.

He is also deeply paranoid and sadistic consistent with a Psychopathic (not Narcissistic) Personality Disorder. His narcissism is a feature of his psychopathy. Alternatively we could just say that Trump is a sick, sick motherfucker.

Pardon me if I don't weep for Trump's troubled relationships with his parents who put a gilded spoon in his mouth and gave him rein to develop the callous personality he has.

No, weeping is not the appropriate response. Great anger might be more useful.

Has anyone seen this brilliant expose by the gifted Gabe Fleisher on his WUTP Substack?

A small sneaky provision added into the CR by the cowardly House GOP that could have a big impact on Congress' ability to rescind Trump's tariffs.

Kennedy said that the measles vaccine causes death every year. False. Measles can cause death for kids who don't get the vaccine. Just ask the people in Texas about that.

On the buying of electricity fro Canada. I know it’s MN and possibly ND that’s the area. I always thought it was because it’s all from coal burners probably illegal in US so doesn’t that make the product illegal? Hell no now we are in the deep weeds that back and forth never covers the products illegal, the special paint with outlawed chemicals here are made there and brought in legally. It happens in every sector, it’s never what it seems or there is a way around the environmental laws for Corps.

We know the point: supplication to the False Messiah in any way, shape or form. No valley is too deep, no river too wide to avoid the bottomless hunger for adulation from this deeply deranged human. His inner tragic pathos, playing out on the global stage is simply too personal and too deep to understand for someone simply budgeting for groceries. Such self-induced delusions are the province of the super-rich, who never knew common daily life challenges. They must create a conflict by themselves while simultaneously creating an opportunity to appear as savior to solve it solely to create a sense of achievement, however false it may be. Their greatest gift lays in giving permission to the populace to deny reality, as they have always done, despite their irrelevant privileged circumstances.

Maybe Doug Ford could keep "matching his alpha-dog stare" (though as a dog lover, I become nauseous at the assertion that the 'cheeto tariff warrior' is an alpha - an alpha uses strength, and the threat of more, for the benefit of the pack, a concept foreign to our coward in chief) and get him to quit Vlad for a closer to home 'strong man' crush.

Also, any chance our kinder, gentler neighbors to the north would consider a temporary twenty-year annexation (automatically reverts back in 2045--put it in the small print that he cannot and would not read--and we won't even change the maps) ... just enough time for us to reinforce the bulwarks of democracy (make Puerto Rico and DC states, impose 18 year term limits on supreme court justices that includes forced retirement every two years for those who have served the longest until the limits are meaningful, impose term limits on congress, overturn citizens united, establish 67 as the threshold for running for office on the top end, and several more) during which we pay their bills and they help save the US experiment in self governance.

Let his obnoxious wish (the only kind he is capable of having) come true, only to discover that the "51st" state is able to banish the MAGA movement to the dustbin of history--where it belongs. Just a thought...

Why does even one person in this country approve of Trump's economic performance? What has he done besides tank the stock market and switch course on tariffs with the cavalier attitude of someone changing their restaurant order? And he's definitely not lowering prices and never once did he say how he was going to do so, by the way. I guess the MAGA diehards would approve if he lined up puppies and kittens on a fence and shot them one by one, so I shouldn't be surprised. Damn woke baby animals.

Because they totally are wedded to the LIE that Felon Trump was cheated out of the 2020 election and is the victim of everyone they hate. These people believed him when he mocked a neurologically handicapped journalist at one of his rallies. They roared with laughter. They roared when he said of Hillary Clinton “Lock her up!” His supporters are cheering over what he is doing! They cannot admit they were wrong.

Just one minor bone of contention: there is nothing nefarious about shredding or burning classified or sensitive documents. That's literally how you're supposed to dispose of them. And there is no legal requirement to hold onto hard copies of classified material. If the organization is being dismantled, these are the appropriate steps to take.

Expand full comment

Well, except that the executive branch isn’t free to dismantle or defund government agencies, which are created and funded by Congress. Thus, the Trump’s and co-president Elon’s efforts to destroy classified information relating to that agency is likewise unlawful.

Expand full comment

I mean, that's fair, but it's doubtful that the destruction activities are being done at the behest of Trump or Musk. It's just what one is supposed to do when an office is getting closed down.

Expand full comment

The destruction activities are being done at the behest of Trump and/or Musk. Once again, the executive has no authority to dismantle agencies; that’s up to Congress. Trump and Musk are trying to do an end-run around the law by creating “facts on the ground.”
