The only saving grace is that Trump’s cognitive decline appears to be accelerating. The fact that he doesn’t really know or care what’s actually in his OBBB tells the story. As deeply cynical as it is its inconsistencies suggest that many hands worked on it without a lot of communication to coordinate the final “working model.” It’s the kind of mess Republicans prefer, however. Like those states who refused Medicaid, they can gut medical care for their constituents and dodge any blame. They hate government and that creates a self-fulfilling prophecy. Government fails the people. See, they say, we told you so. And so the red states do what they do. Enjoy the holiday.
I am busy sending missives to my Senators and Representative telling them not to fumble the ball this time with their messaging. Trump is all over the airwaves spewing lies about his BBB. This is my message to them: Half of America knows NOTHING about the OBBB. The other half has heard of it, but DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS IN IT! You must not depend on TV appearances to get the word out. You must do town halls in Republican districts as well as Democratic ones. You MUST appear on Fox and Joe Rogan and other right wing sites plus EVERY social media site you can access and get the word out about how damaging this is. Counter every lying claim Trump makes with truthful facts. Do not miss the boat this time with your messaging. The old ways do not work. Get some advertising or salespeople to design a massive information campaign directed at ALL voters in the places where they get their news, NOT the media that you love to be on, the ones that favor you - because not enough people are watching them. WE HAVE TO WIN IN 2026. Do your jobs!
If, as has been claimed that border crossings were so low that it amounted to such a trickle, why has so much money been invested in strengthening the border? When the wall has been porous, why is so much devoted to building more of it? How much of that money will eventually be rerouted to other pet projects? We are on the way to being a 3rd world country. I really still hold on to hope that this travesty can somehow be reversed.
Don't put a lot of stock into the BLS job numbers. They work at Trump's behest. They claim that the jobs are in the public sector, specifically state and local governments. Even more specifically they claim it's driven by public school hiring. In June. Come on people, this is bogus. Scratch the surface with Trump and you always find the con.
Chickens know their place in the world... eating whatever their dear leader spreads out for them. Really, you expect chickens to be other than their true nature? Do you have eyes to see???
My Senators and Representative in Congress with all-in from the get go. Their social media feeds full of rah-rah cheerleading for the bill and self-congratulations when it passed. As a blue dot in a red state, I see this all the time. No matter how much this bill hurts the people that elected them, they know Mitch McConnell is right - the voters that surround me will get over it (or never see the worst since those are delayed until after the midterms). They care much more about keeping Trump happy than about helping their constituents. Like many progressives in conservative states, I have had a front row seat to this year after year, term after term.
Does anyone think Trump gives a damn about what is in the OBBB. He only cares about getting something (anything) done because then he looks and can claim he's successful to the cult faithful. It doesn't matter if buried in there the cult faithful have to drink poisoned Kool Aid before the 2026 mid-terms. He doesn't care.
While Bill might not think there is magic in the OBBB, there actually is. The tax cuts take effect almost immediately. While the ugly cuts to Medicaid, SNAP and other programs do not get invoked until after the 2026 mid-terms. So the GOP will only face the music in the 2028 election cycle. That gives them three and a half years to figure out how to clear that hurdle.
Now that Trump's big, ugly bill has passed I am so worried for the next class of people who are going to suffer at his hands. Part of America has already said they are okay with Trump persecuting undocumented immigrants simply because of the color of their skin. To them, these people are not worthy of fairness, compassion, dignity.
Now, with "must work" requirements for Medicaid, I am fearful for the drug addicts. They are just the type of people that Trump's America is willing to crush under their boots. Almost every family in America has a friend or relative who has had problems with addiction. Addicts do not choose the life they are leading. Modern drugs, like Meth, can be addictive after the first use and while they make the user feel wonderful while they are high, they also make them miserable when they come down.
Meth amplifies every human emotion to mental-illness proportions. If they are mad, the are out-of-control angry - which makes them break things, which leads to a jail sentence. If they are sad, they are suicidally depressed enough to try and end their lives. If they are paranoid, they think the whole world hates them, that people are trying to kill them - and they rack their brains to try and figure out why. The drug makes them so out-of-their mind crazy that, even though they are loved, their friends and family cannot tolerate being with them.
To get to my point - these people cannot fill out complicated paperwork, and the majority of them are certainly not employable. There is just no way in the world anybody would hire them. Will there be any consideration for this in Trumpworld's new Medicaid work requirements? Will there be enough people on staff to help them fill out the proper forms?
SNAP food benefits, averaging $6 a day, are the only thing keeping some of these people alive. The health care benefits provide much needed mental health and addiction counseling for the lucky ones that can get sober long enough to understand how much they need those programs. They are a life line. Without these programs I am so afraid that more people will be committing suicide, more people will be going without food to the point of starvation, more homeless addicts will fall prey to the physical problems endemic among their numbers with no health care coverage to alleviate their pain and suffering.
These people do not want to be addicts, but they did not understand the crushing power of the drugs they were experimenting with. Will Congress take care of these constituents? Or do they only give heed to the needs of their billionaire donors? Will America have mercy and compassion for these poor, unfortunate souls? Or will they be left on the trash heap of society, told to drop dead because we don't care about people like them?
I urge every state government to pass laws protecting these people who have nobody else to advocate for them. They should get the same waiver from work requirements for their mental incapacitation that physically disabled people get. To do otherwise is to condemn them to greater misery and even death.
Can we put to rest once and for all that the Republicans are the manly party. In all my years on this planet, I have never seen such weak people as Republicans and CEO's. They whine and then cave. What pathetic excuses for humans. If you can't stand up for your principles, then you belong in the Republican Party.
What they even bother putting on the show is beyond me, maybe it's so they can go back to their constituents and say they tried to fight the bill? Let's all hope their constituents start feeling the pinch soon so they can make changes in 2026
Trump's insistence that Iran won't be back in the nuclear bomb business anytime soon- or maybe ever- reminds me of his obsession with his crowd size. Which may itself be a proxy for some other area of concern where size tends to be a fixation. Such is the level of mental capacity at work here.
There should be a massive effort to place a billboard on every major highway on the outskirts of every major town in every Red District in the Country identifying by name the U.S. Representative who voted for the Big Ugly Bill listing the eventual damages it will do to its citizens. The same should be done in every State with a Republican Senator up for reelection. Much of the bad stuff will not be apparent to voters until after the midterms; consequently, Democratic Party messaging between now and then is critical!
If you voted for a republican any republican you voted for the Budget bill. If you voted for a republican any republican you voted for people to lose food aid, for people to lose health insurance, for human beings who have not committed a crime to be put in cages in a FL swamp. If you voted for a republican any republican you voted for Ukraine to be sacrificed to Putin. If you voted for a republican you voted for the destruction of the rule of law. If you voted for a republican and you lose your health insurance, your hospital closes, your neighbor is deported, you lose your job because of green energy penalties. You deserve it because it is what you voted for.
In regards to Russia's 2016 election interference, the Trump team is suggesting that "analysts’ timetable for putting the assessment together was unusually rushed." There was a DEADLINE, election day, for the interference to have effect. It would have been a dereliction of duty not to proceed with haste.
I will be amazed, in a positive way, if the GOP loses in the midterms, honestly or fraudulently because by then the hooks of the authoritarians will be too deep.

Trump is running ads in Kentucky and Ohio slamming Thomas Massie and saying he stands with Nancy Pelosi and the Ayatollah....ouch
