As far as a metaphor for Trump’s America, I still react strongly to the one I read in one of Adrian’s columns many months ago. Upon comparing the similarities between the Alligator Alley lock-up with the Uihger camps that the Chinese tried to hide from the world, the comment was made, “They hide their concentration camps from the world. We sell merch.”
Self-reflection is the enemy of the conservative mind, so the Reflecting Pool is the sworn enemy of the Trump administration. Maybe it is an even better metaphor than you think.
Do we exploit the mechanisms Trump put into place or get rid of those powers permanently? I think Tolkien made it clear that no one can resist the power of the ring and it needed to be destroyed in Mt. Doom. Where is the Fellowship that will commit to that purpose?

Jim Swift standing up with the truth about events for democracy, thanks

Sweet irony——the pool has become an algae swamp that needs draining.
One additional element of the metaphor: Blame Obama (and/or Biden).
