Adrian, what’s the current status of people being allowed to update/renew their refugee status, both under the older programs and the one specific to Ukrainian refugees?

Thanks for rounding up the good news here.

PBS News: "Juan ________ (name redacted) was detained on his way to the hospital NICU taking breast milk to his infant daughter, who was born almost six weeks premature. Brought to the United States from Colombia when he was 8 years old, Juan is 35 years old now and a longtime part of the DACA program. He renewed his DACA status every two years, became a college graduate, works in a lab in Texas doing blood and other medical tests. His wife and kids are all citizens and he has no criminal history. Juan has been held at a detention center in Texas for the past seven weeks."

Juan ________ (name redacted) and his family are suffering. Their lives may be ruined because of false accusations - lies - that Donald J. Trump has been broadcasting against immigrants from the highest bully pulpit in the world hundreds, maybe thousands of times - even from the second minute of his 2015 campaign announcement speech until this very hour - a relentless, deranged campaign of demonizing and dehumanization fueled by racist moral insanity. Now Melania claims that she is being treated unfairly - and that might very well be the case. However, her suffering is truly "treeevial" compared to what is happening to Juan, his wife and his children.

So, if I were the king of immigration policy in the US, if I had to chose, I would definitely keep Mr. Velasco and deport Melania Trump.

I love Adrian's reporting

my understanding is that they prioritizing Lian and his father's deportation. Purely out of spite.

Thank you for the reporting!! Starting to feel less hopeless...

Along with Big Bend the National Butterfly Center near Mission, TX is under threat of devastation again with contracts going out to build the wall through it.

Writing from Austin, today I paid for flights for a family to be reunited with their deported husband/ father. The cruelty of Administration and ICE in Texas are also more stealthy, quiet. Snatched loved ones, peaceful, hard working families living in fear. 🥺

Adrian - Thanks for this fantastic reporting, as always. It was nice to hear some good news. Come on back to MN this summer and you’ll see why our communities are so amazing. We’re still taking care of our neighbors, btw. 🏡💜

New Hampshire backed off their building an ICE facility thank god. On the first day of the next Democratic presidential term they need to shudder all these facilities like their Alcatraz.

Rajeev. I think you meant shutter, not shudder. Glad to see that New Hampshire is on the good side of the problem.

Rajeev's avatar

Thank you for that correction I definitely meant shutter. I am the one that shudders thinking of having one of those evil facilities in my home state.

Thanks Adrian - I hope we can keep the stories of people being sent to these "camps" front and center bc as you've written - no one likes this policy!

If we all grab the nearest corner of the problem and tug, we'll move it.

I’m so heartened to hear of the efforts on behalf of Big Bend, my first and still favorite national park. It is isolated and a long drive from anywhere else and until recently was the least visited national park in the US. Those letters were from love for a park that has always been dear to Texans.

I do hope that as more and more becomes known about conditions for detained immigrants in these inhumane warehouses, we will see the same outpouring of love for those who suffer, no matter their countries of origin. Hey, we have the Pope on our side.

Good to see people standing up all over the country, even in the Texas and Georgia.

Now we need to convert that energy into a full and public trial for the law breaking by the likes of Jonathan Ross, Raymundo Gutierrez, Jesus Ochoa, and the killers of Ruben Ray Martinez and Keith Porter. And their superiors who helped create these American Death Squads who thought they were immune to will of We The People as embodied in the Bill of Rights.

We saw the metaphorical mask slip when they put the real masks on and thought no one could stop them. But the American people are a proud, brave, and free people who don't take kindly to being pushed around by government thugs.

They hate us for our freedom, which is why we cannot let this slide. A sacred covenant of our civic religion has been broken, and our Constitution has been trampled by wannabe Secret Police. We The People must show them why underestimating us was such a serious error. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but they will face justice for the laws they've broken.

We won't easily forget, there's no statute of limitations for murder, and state crimes can't be pardoned by your hairspray Caesar.

I long for the day that Mike Johnson, John Thune and company can be sent to Dilley without due process to spend several months enjoying lock down there
