None of this matters if Congress and the Attorney General refuses to do anything about it. Trump and every member of his admin. and many in Congress should have been impeached and charged already but NOTHING has happened. We are sick of hearing complaints about all the illegal actions by government officials. We need ACTION!

The Attorney General will not do anything about anything unless Trump tells her to.

She is a dumb as a rock. Palentir, owned by Peter Thiel who bankrolled J D Vance into the Senate and VP is an angry gay man who apparently wants to own everything.

That Democrats and Republicans are both benefittig from all of this is no surprise. We all can agree that Nancy Pelosi is guilty of insider trading. So are many others. You don't get to be mulit-millionaires in Congress on $174,000 a year with two homes, kids in private school etc. Their campaign war chests are theirs when they leave.

You know, Robin Williams was right. Congress should wear patches on their suits to show

everyone who supports and owns them. Because they certainly don't work for the voters.

Nancy Pelosi’s husband had a long career in finance, before she ran for office. Did she help him after she got elected? Is the Pope Catholic? I am sure she gave him help, but I do think his success was due to his abilities, training, and doing the job every day.

Reporters should question and exert more pressure on members of Congress--with regard to fulfilling their Constitutional duties. One example: Is the POTUS not doing anything that suggests he may be violating the Emoluments Clause? If Hunter Biden warranted investigation for corruption, possibly relating to President Biden, why aren't they at least investigating Trump? For future presidents, do they no longer need to divest their business and/or put their financial assets in a blind trust?

Absolutely....or are you saying the Rs would never investigate Trump because he's an R, too? It's gotten to that point, but I think enough of them know this is wrong, and they're maybe too scared to do the right thing (and I don't blame them for being scared).

Rules no longer exist. Democrats have no power and have an uphill battle to gain any back. Republicans are on their knees or on their backs. If we ever get out of this, a complete rewrite will be necessary. Good luck to the survivors!

I've long felt that getting out of this involves prominent Rs, conservative journalists, and former/current Trump officials spearheading a denunciation of Trump. A few individuals have done this, but it's been really sporadic, which hasn't created a momentum for other Rs, etc. to speak out. We could get out of this if a significant movement of Rs, conservative journalists, and former/current Trump officials can keep hammering away at Trump.

NanceeM's avatar

That would certainly be a constructive path, but I see no indication there are Rs headed in that direction.

Neither do I, but I think it's worth pushing for. Also, I think some of them know this is the right thing to do, but they need encouragement and prodding. I wonder how much effort has been made, behind the scenes, to make this happen? My guess is that very little effort has been made--or maybe at some point in the past, a lot of people invested time into making this happen, but they've long given up. ?

You know, I'm not even sure any moral compass is left to move. Look at the shameless complicity of Rubio and Graham as examples. And Mike Lee was often mentioned for Supreme Court! They once articulated a clear perception of the unfitness of Trump. Now I don't trust that they would defend their own families against him. And the "conservatives" on the Supreme Court have abandoned every principle they once championed. I have no rational explanation, but it seems true that everything Trump touches dies, and what we knew as America is no exception. He is pure, deranged evil, a rapidly metastasizing disease.

From what I just read in WAPO, Republicans don’t want to discuss impeachment unless it can be used to keep them in their jobs after the midterm elections next year. And their supporters don’t want it to happen, period. Better to concentrate on every current election this year, and prepare like crazy for next year. Can’t do anything unless the majority in both houses are big and blue in 2026.

All the Republicans and most of the Democrats in the House just voted to table Green's articles of impeachment. That was likely because it was based on Trump's strike on Iran. Since it was successful (sort of?) and Iran really should not have nukes, it's not very popular to impeach the president over not having Congress vote on the matter. Most Democrats in the House don't want to touch impeachment. Citizens who disagree with that should let their House members know.

With extreme partisanship, impeachment/removal has become meaningless, except as performance. It's not a satisfying answer, but we shouldn't waste the effort only to hand Trump another opportunity to cry "witch hunt."

Ice is the least of our worries. Palantir is building a database comprised of every government agency’s information it has for every citizen and non-citizen alike.

Typically, we keep our most sensitive data behind firewalls; however, since contractors will have access to all of our information, there is nothing in the constitution protecting the average citizen from misuse and abuse by government contractors. The Constitution only protects us from government interference, not private entities.

Therefore, consider the fact that in addition to all your data in the hands of companies and social media networks, being interlaced and combined with all of our government data, which could then be accessed by non-government entities and people who could view and utilize all of your sensitive government information for whatever purposes they deem necessary.

It’s a recipe for disaster, and the beginning of the end for our democracy. IMHO…:)

More protein is NOT necessarily better since we don't have any potential to store it and excess gets converted to carbohydrate and stored either as carbs or fat, not to mention it's extraordinarily hard on the kidneys to excrete excess protein. Before you promote getting more, calculate how much you're getting and then go from there. You're doing harm and not knowing it without the correct knowledge. I have the knowledge and educate where I can.

I used to live in Ro Khanna's district but I am suspicious of his progressive bonafides.

He talks very differently when he appears on CNBC vs when he appears on dirtbag left Youtube shows.

He co-sponsored the bill on banning congressional stock trades yet is one of the most prolific traders.

Of course calling this hypocrisy is too simplistic. There is a valid argument that says you need to be able to succeed in the current system to have the credibility to reform the system. Maybe Khanna is playing that game. Alternatively he may just be a slimy two faced politician.

Ethics experts say Miller’s deep involvement in ICE’s efforts and his financial stake in Palantir raises conflict of interest concerns.

This certainly looks like a conflict of interest and ethics violation to me. But given our current government, who will investigate or charge any of these people for insider trading?

Thanks Joe for the reporting on this topic. Best quote, the Neanderthal who said they have bigger fish to fry. What are those fish? Maybe impeaching this criminal President? He's breaking more laws than anyone in the country. How about stopping Miller and Homan from terrorizing our communities? How about charging Noem for being an accomplices to the terrorizing charge and overspending her budget? How about impeaching Pam Bondi for not discharging her duties in accordance to the law and lying to Congress? Ditto RFK. How about censoring Mike Lee? How about derailing the big, beautiful piece of shit that guts Medicaid and puts millions of Americans at risk? If these are the F-ing fish, then get me some bait and a pole.

Well, I'm really disappointed in Khanna. I thought he was one of the good ones. Guess not.

As to TikTok, I find it laughable that they are worried about our privacy and security when they just handed more information than TikTok will ever have about us over to Elon's goons, to do what? Sell it to the highest bidder? Whatever China knows about me through Temu - like I buy a lot of cat themed merch, and anti-Taco stuff? Is about what they will get on Tik-Tok. Cat videos and reposting anti Taco memes. Frankly, I'm a lot more worried about what our own Gestapo is going to do with it.

Also, why are the GOPers worried about Russian Propaganda on TikTok? It's on Facebook, too. (Not that I see a whole lot, since the algorithm knows I'm a leftie.) And since they all seem to think Putin is a great guy and Ukraine started the war, what's not to like? These guys are hypocrites. Big time.

"Does Congress still see itself as an independent branch of government?"

Yes, when a D is in the WH. Checks and balances for thee, but not for me. It's not just for this tik-tok issue, but many others.

What should be a one of the biggest stories--or headlines--is that the Constitutional system built by the Founding Fathers has completely failed--largely because the Congress is failing to fulfill their oath to protect and defend the Constitution. I'm guessing it's so obvious to journalists and news junkies and has been going on so long that they're jaded. But I don't think story is really reaching the more casual news consumers.
